The group moved to Yokoo village, where there was a wealthy sake brewer named Bunshichi who had stockpiled large quantities of rice and grain and had brewed and stored much sake. They pressed forward to destroy his property. Bunshichi set up temporary seating in his spacious courtyard, placed his hands before a ritual banner, and said, "Everyone, you have worked so hard. Since it is very cold, I would like to offer you sake." He ladled out sake in large rice-washing tubs and served it in various bowls - main bowls, second bowls, soup bowls - whatever was at hand.
After generously entertaining them without any resentment, he offered two hundred ryō in gold, saying "Though it is a small amount, please accept this." When someone who appeared to be a leader accepted the money and hastily composed a poem saying "The mountain villages must excel in their broad hearts, to give money even to people like us," everyone shouted "Admirable! Admirable!" and was about to stand up and leave. At that moment, some unknown persons broke through the back gate, set fire to the residence, completely destroyed all the storehouses, and immediately set fires from within - a truly tragic turn of events. From the tenement houses to the firewood sheds and even the privies, twelve buildings in total, comprising twenty-three structures altogether, were simultaneously
