燃上る其光りにて伊勢山へ越上田へ出よと凡
天を先に立騒き立てぞ出て行此火上田へ見へ
候程ぞ先に防を願われし十五人吉田堀谷佐
々木佐藤小林等の士罷出我々唯今一見仕候
処に賊徒横尾を焼拂ひ伊勢山を越城下へ
推寄ると相みへ候得は猶予難成存候何卒我
等十五人に長の御暇給りて我々か存分に相働は
彼傍若無人の奴原不残討取領内安閑に
相鎮め申度候譬ひが事に相成候共牢人者之
仕業なればさして主君の御不益にも相成申
まじと一筋に被申ければ城中如何と御思案の所に
領内ゟの注進櫛の歯を挽か如く騒動最早
真田横尾ヲ不残焼払伊勢山川久保を越て
打寄べきよしに相見へ候急き御防の御人数御出し
可被下と追々に注進有けれは大老今は早ぜひもなし
領内に入こみ城下までも可押寄各望みの通可＿レ任￣ス

燃え上がる炎の光を頼りに「伊勢山を越えて上田へ出よ」と、凡天（ぼんてん）を先頭に立て、騒ぎながら出て行った。この火は上田からも見えるほどであった。
先に防衛の許可を願い出ていた十五人、すなわち吉田・堀谷・佐々木・佐藤・小林らの武士が出て来て、「我々が只今見聞きしたところによれば、賊徒は横尾を焼き払い、伊勢山を越えて城下へ押し寄せてくる様子でございます。一刻の猶予もならないと存じます。何とぞ我々十五人に出動のお許しをいただき、我々が存分に働かせていただければ、あの傍若無人の輩を残らず討ち取り、領内を安穏に鎮めることができましょう。たとえ何か事が起きましても、牢人者の仕業でございますれば、主君のご不益には大してなるまい」と一途に申し上げた。
城中では如何にすべきかとご思案の最中に、領内各地からの注進（報告）が、櫛の歯を引くように次々と届き、「騒動はすでに真田・横尾を残らず焼き払い、伊勢山・川久保を越えて押し寄せてくる様子に見えます。急ぎ防衛のお人数をお出し下さい」と、次々と注進があったので、大老は「今はもはや是非もない。領内に入り込み、城下までも押し寄せてくるかもしれぬ。各々の望み通りに任せよう」と

Using the light of the burning flames as a guide, they went off in a tumult with the bonten carried at the front, shouting "Cross over Iseyama and head to Ueda!" The fire was visible even from Ueda.
The fifteen samurai who had previously requested permission to mount a defense — including men named Yoshida, Horitani, Sasaki, Satō, and Kobayashi — came forward and stated: "We have just witnessed with our own eyes that the rioters have burned Yokoo to the ground and appear to be crossing Iseyama to advance on the castle town. We believe this cannot be permitted to continue without delay. Please grant us fifteen men leave to act at our own discretion. If you do so, we will cut down every last one of those lawless ruffians and restore peace to the domain. Even if something untoward should happen, since these are the actions of rōnin, it would hardly be to our lord's detriment," and they pressed their case single-mindedly.
While those within the castle were deliberating on what to do, reports from throughout the domain arrived one after another in rapid succession, like teeth being pulled from a comb, stating: "The disturbance has already burned Sanada and Yokoo to the ground, and it appears they are crossing Iseyama and Kawakubo to advance. Please quickly dispatch forces for defense." As these reports came in one after another, the chief elder (tairō) declared, "There is now no other choice. They have entered the domain and may push forward all the way to the castle town. Let each man act as they wish."
