虚を傳ふれは万人実と傳へて先立而の騒動
取て返し嶋川原ゟ打登るのよし申の所に又々
上州ゟ跡騒動起り南牧砥沢羽根澤の方
をうち潰し六万人余地峠を越清川不残
焼拂い旧田を越来ると云内に亦甲州口

一人の虚言が伝わると万人がそれを真実として伝えて、先だっての騒動を取り返そうと島川原から打って登るという話があった所に、また上州から後続の騒動が起こり、南牧・砥沢・羽根沢の方を打ち壊し、六万人余りが地峠を越えて清川を残らず焼き払い、旧田を越えて来るという。その間にまた甲州口から相木・川上が皆蜂起して高野町まで押し寄せて来るなどと、様々な風聞があって、十月五日の夕方から村々は異常な騒ぎとなり、急いで近辺の村々へ回状を出した。

When one person's false rumor spread, ten thousand people transmitted it as truth, saying they would take back the previous disturbance and rise up from Shimagawara. At that point, another uprising arose from Jōshū (Kōzuke Province), destroying the areas of Nanmoku, Tosawa, and Hanesawa. Over sixty thousand people crossed Chitōge Pass, completely burned down Kiyokawa, and came across Kyūda. Meanwhile, from the Kōshū entrance, Aiki and Kawakami all rose up and pressed forward to Takano-machi. With such various rumors, from the evening of October 5th, the villages were in extraordinary turmoil, and hastily sent out circular notices to nearby villages.
Kutsuzawa, Hirai, and Aihama enlisted Maedome, Komiyama and others as allies, fortifying Kyūda Bridge and Nozawa Bridge. They wrote instructions stating that Hara-shinden, Yajima, Hachiman, Shionada Bridge, or toward Shimagawara should be their destinations.
