外竹鑓樫の棒思ひ〳〵に用意して各々晒の
鉢巻凶年の蕎麦焼餅の-糧（カテ）を包み各も

その他竹槍や樫の棒など思い思いに用意して、各々白い鉢巻きを締め、凶年の蕎麦や焼き餅などの食糧を包み、各々「もと」や「ばち」などの合言葉を決めて印内へ押し寄せた。印内では「さあ騒動が来た」と言って家族を避難させて逃げ出したが、よく見ると実はそうではなく、防備のためであったと聞いて、同じように加勢に加わった。下の城ではこの松明の火を見て上州軍が確実に来たと思い込んで驚き騒いだが、よく見ると味方であったので、ようやく安堵した。

In Innai, people shouted "The uprising has come!" and evacuated their families, fleeing their homes. However, upon closer inspection, it was found that this was not actually an attack but defensive preparations, so they joined the reinforcements in the same manner. At Shimo-no-shiro, seeing these torch fires, they were convinced that forces from Jōshū were definitely coming and panicked greatly, but when they looked more carefully and realized these were allies, they were finally relieved.
From there they headed toward Shimagawara, where Nunoshita, Yaehara, Kemoyama and others had established strong mutual defenses. Hearing that several hundred people were holed up in the withered miscanthus grass of Mimaki-ga-hara waiting for nightfall, Mochizuki decided to retreat out of concern for what might happen behind them. He rushed up Uriū slope and lit beacon fires to survey the area. At Maki-Fuse, there was confusing commotion about whether an uprising was coming from behind, and they beat large drums as signals, declaring they would not let anyone enter Iri-Fuse. This caused everyone to panic and advance as far as Futabe, Nukui, and Nakai. At Hachiman, they shouted "Hachiman Kikumae zo, drive them away!" with great force, extending to Omayose.
