賊徒を取ほさんと皆口々に網懸村山に続て上平
同じ峠へ押登ル松代にては物馴たる武士を大
将として数百人の勢をむけ地蔵峠を堅させ
物大将足軽百人引率し鼠の宿にぞ固メ
ける弐人見て戯れて
　　さうどふの中には猫を真田伊豆
　　　　なぜに鼠は武者震ひする
と口ずさみしと云此外和田長久保はすわゟ
甲州勢来迚和田峠へ押上り付合見れはむた騒き也
湯の町尾和村も和田ゟさうどふ来る迚是も和田峠へ
登る村々首を古町やそりや騒動か北古屋とどこも
彼所も戸を立や長大門も飛下る松本には色〻
評判成所に平賀ゟ飛脚来り具に様子聞に付
兼而加勢の為組置れし廿五人組を二頭と
して捕手の役人五拾余人捕縄具足兵杖
等長持に入勇々鋪出立平賀へぞ向われける

現代語訳

賊徒を取り押さえようと皆が口々に言いながら、網懸村から山に続いて上平の同じ峠へ押し登った。松代では物慣れた武士を大将として数百人の勢力を向け、地蔵峠を固めさせた。物頭が足軽百人を引率し、鼠宿にて守りを固めた。これを見た人が戯れて詠んだ。

　　　　なぜに鼠は武者震いをする

と口ずさんだという。この他、和田・長久保では諏訪から甲州勢が来るということで和田峠へ押し上がったが、行き合って見ると無駄な騒ぎであった。湯之町・尾和村も和田から騒動が来るということで、これも和田峠へ登った。村々の首（庄屋）は古町へ「そりゃ騒動か」と北古屋へも、どこもかしこも戸を立てて、長大門も飛び下った。松本では色々な評判が立つ中、平賀から飛脚が来て詳しく様子を聞いたところ、かねてから加勢のために組織されていた二十五人組を二組として、捕手の役人五十余人が捕縄・具足・兵杖等を長持に入れ、勇々しく出立して平賀へと向かった。

英語訳

Everyone was calling out to capture the bandits as they climbed from Amikake village through the mountains to the same pass at Kamitaira. In Matsushiro, they sent several hundred troops led by an experienced warrior as general to fortify Jizo Pass. A military commander led one hundred ashigaru foot soldiers to defend Nezumi-no-shuku (Mouse Inn). Seeing this, someone jokingly composed:

　　In this turmoil, the cat is Sanada Izu(-no-kami)
　　　　Why then does the mouse tremble like a warrior?

And hummed this verse. Additionally, in Wada and Nagakubo, hearing that Koshu forces were coming from Suwa, they rushed up to Wada Pass, but when they met up and looked around, it was all meaningless commotion. Yu-no-machi and Owa village also climbed to Wada Pass, saying that trouble was coming from Wada. The village heads went to Furumachi saying "Is this really a revolt?" and to Kitafuruya as well - everywhere people barricaded their doors, and even the head gate came rushing down. In Matsumoto, amid various rumors, a messenger arrived from Hiragao give detailed reports of the situation. The pre-organized twenty-five man units that had been formed for mutual aid were organized into two groups, and over fifty officials with arrest duties packed ropes, armor, and weapons into long storage boxes and set out courageously toward Hiraga.
