なさしめたり一人 貪戻（タンレイ）なるもの有て一国乱を
ぞ起しけり騒動相静て後亦江戸表ゟ捕手
の役人二頭曲渕甲斐守牧野大隅守二三百
人の人数にて来りさま〳〵と御詮さく有被召捕
もの夥し曲渕は先達来り大 略（マカ）にして帰￣リ給ふ
牧野は後れて登り久布逗留して在々所々古い
咎有者迄もきひしく穿鑿して数多召捕し
故誰か言侍りしか
曲り渕といへ共心直なれは
来し甲斐有て直に御甲斐利
手柄をばひとり牧野と思ひしに
大隅之跡さかす隅〻
凶年飢歳のうへに如此の騒き有て金銀尽
現代語訳
法福寺見佐山峠には百姓を配置して、もし賊徒が来たならば狼煙を上げよ、昼は狼煙、夜は火玉（火矢）と定めておいた。これはすべて嘘八百の寝言であって、これほどの騒ぎを引き起こしたのである。一人の貪欲で凶暴な者がいたために、一国の乱が起きてしまったのだ。
騒動が静まった後、また江戸から捕手の役人が曲渕甲斐守・牧野大隅守の二人を頭として、二、三百人の人数でやって来て、様々と御詮議があり、召し捕られた者は夥しかった。曲渕は先に来て、大まかに調べて帰られた。牧野は後から登って来て、久しく逗留し、在々所々の古い罪咎のある者までも厳しく穿鑿して、数多く召し捕った。それゆえ誰かが詠んだとか。
曲り渕といえども心直なれば
来し甲斐あって直に御甲斐利（利あり）
手柄をばひとり牧野と思いしに
大隅の跡探す隅々（まで）

At Hōfukuji Misa-yama Pass, farmers were stationed with orders to light signal fires should the bandits approach — smoke signals by day and fire beacons by night, as had been arranged. All of this was based on complete fabrications and idle talk, yet it caused such a great commotion. Because of one greedy and violent person, an entire province was thrown into disorder.
After the disturbance had settled, officials from Edo arrived once again — two commanders named Magobuchi Kai-no-kami and Makino Ōsumi-no-kami — leading two to three hundred men. Various investigations were conducted, and a great number of people were arrested. Magobuchi arrived first, conducted a general investigation, and then returned. Makino came later, stayed for a long time, and conducted strict investigations even into old offenses throughout the various villages, arresting a great many people. Therefore, someone is said to have composed:
Though called "Magobuchi" (Bent Inlet), his heart is straight,
His coming to Kai had direct and fruitful results
I thought the achievement belonged to Makino alone,
Yet even in Ōsumi's wake, every corner was searched
On top of a year of bad harvests and famine, such a disturbance occurred, and money and silver were exhausted...
