置いて、家内はひっそりとして居たのであった。そうしているところに、凡天を先頭に立てて大勢が押し寄せてきたので、若い者共が屋根の上から無茶に石を投げ落とした。さしもの大勢も近寄りかね、しばらくためらっていたが、めいめいが持っている松明を屋根の上へ投げ上げたところ、門の上屋に燃え移って炎々として燃え上がった。これでは中々かなわないと、防戦の人数は屋根から飛び下りて逃げ散った。「得たりやあほう」と乱れ入り、土蔵や穴倉を探し取り、中から火を付けたので、さしも堅固な土蔵造りも一時に燃え上がり、もう炎天をも焦がすほどであった。
