みきそなへにくろ豆の御まんま

までもござらぬやうにいまの

ははなつたらしでござりませ
ぬやうにひとへに御ねがひ申

現代語訳
新右衛門は例のごとく理屈者であって、もっとも商人であるから大黒天を信じ、機嫌を損ねないよう怠りなくお神酒をお供えに黒豆のご飯のみにて九つまで我一人起きていて、息子の息災延命、なお成長の上鈍まで（愚鈍まで）もございませぬよう、今のうちは鼻を垂らしていても後々は鼻っ垂らしでございませぬよう、ひとえにお願い申し上げますと繰り返し繰り返しお頼み申し上げれば、不思議なるかな大黒天現れ出で「ぜんざい、ぜんざい、われはこれなり」などとしかつべらしいことなく、とんとお心安く「新右衛門よ、さておぬしが望みは世間の者とは事が違い、彼の物を欲しいとも言わず、ただ息子のことばかり、あれこれ言うが、うちでのこづちの方より俺が利用券には難しい。しかしながら頼むとあれば立て引きではないが、ことにおぬしがことは持ち前の額の皺に皺を寄せた隠れ蓑の隠れ笠、この二品をおぬしに進上ではないが、しばらく貸すから、これを着て見やれ」とお貸しなされけり。大黒様もなんといっても年寄りだけで重そうなるご修行なり。

食い物のことを言うはもったいないが、黒豆の飯は堅い。ごめんだ。神酒徳利もよく振ってくりやれ
英語訳
Shinzaemon was, as usual, argumentative, and being a merchant above all, believed in Daikokuten. So as not to displease the deity, he diligently offered sacred sake and ate only black bean rice until nine o'clock, staying up alone and repeatedly praying: "Please grant my son good health and long life, and as he grows up, may he not be dull-witted. Though he may have a runny nose now, please ensure he won't be a snot-nosed brat in the future. I humbly beseech you for this."
To his surprise, Daikokuten appeared before him, saying "Excellent, excellent, it is I!" without any pompous airs, speaking quite familiarly: "Shinzaemon, your wish differs from that of worldly people. You don't ask for material things, but only speak of your son this and that. From my magic mallet's perspective, your request is difficult. However, since you ask, though it's not a permanent gift, your situation is special - with your natural forehead wrinkles deepened by worry. Here are an invisibility cloak and hat. I won't give them to you permanently, but I'll lend them for a while. Try wearing these." And so he lent them. Even Daikokuten, being elderly as he was, seemed to find his divine duties quite weighty.
