○塩竃（しおがま） 福渡戸より本道をわずか五、六町も行かないうちに、右手の山側に天狗岩と呼ばれる岩がある。高さは数百仭もあり、すらりとそびえて雲をも凌ぐほどで、獣も近づくことができず、鳥も飛び越えることができない。頂上には松の木が枝を交えており、まさに天狗の棲み処かと疑われるほどである。また、左手の川の中には野立石と呼ばれる大きな岩があり、高さは二丈余り、上部は平らで、縦十二、三間、横八間ほどの広さがある。松の木がまばらに生えており、趣がことさら優れている。昔、蒲生飛騨守氏郷がこの山中を通行した際に、野立て（休憩）をした場所だと言われている。近頃、当村のある人物が岩の上に茶屋を設けて客を迎える計画があると聞くが、それはさぞよい納涼台となることであろう。この数十歩ほど上流に、矢板某の屋敷地があり、鬱蒼とした木々が険しい崖に臨み、奇妙な形の石が川の中央に横たわっている。もし一つ東屋でも設けたならば、清らかな眺めはさぞかし多くの人を集めることであろう。この地の温泉は、坂下湯・風呂湯・熱湯の三槽がある。熱湯は常に沸騰しており、入浴することはできない。家屋は七、八軒あるが——

○Shiogama Not even five or six chō (approximately 550–660 meters) from the main road past Fukuwatado, there stands on the right-hand mountain side a rock called Tengu-iwa (Tengu Rock). Rising hundreds of jin in height, it soars gracefully into the clouds; neither beast can approach it nor bird fly over it. At its summit, branches of pine trees are interspersed, making one truly wonder if it might be the dwelling place of a tengu. On the left, in the middle of the river, lies a great boulder called Nodachi-ishi (Field-stand Rock), rising over two jō in height. Its top is flat, measuring approximately twelve to thirteen ken in length and eight ken in width. Pine trees grow sparsely upon it, lending it a particularly refined and picturesque quality. It is said that in former times, Gamō Hida-no-kami Ujisato rested here (performed a "field-stand") while passing through this mountain area. Recently, I understand that someone from the local village has plans to build a teahouse on top of the rock to receive guests, which would surely make a fine elevated spot for enjoying the cool summer air. A few dozen steps upstream from here lies the estate of one Yaita, where dense trees overlook sheer cliffs and strangely shaped rocks lie across the middle of the river. Should even a small pavilion be built there, the clear and beautiful view would surely attract a great many visitors. The hot spring waters at this location consist of three baths: SakaShita-yu (Lower Slope Bath), Furo-yu (Bath Spring), and Netsu-yu (Hot Bath).
