沼のかきつばた
二つ岳の雪
向山のもみじ
物聞山のほととぎす
南都（奈良）に上った、この留守中に、継母は三女（伊香保姫）を深く妬み、年上の二女を吾妻川に沈めて殺し、なおも末娘の伊香保姫をも殺そうとしばしば企てた。しかし、この姫は実母の形見として与えられた千手観音の小さな像を守り袋に入れて肌身離さず身につけていたため、この観音様の加護によって死地を免れ、伊香保村の湯戸集という家に身を隠した。
そして留守中の大変な出来事を南都に知らせたところ、この時父の家茂はすでに亡くなった後であったため、兄の家定が間もなく下向して、継母を里方へ離別し、湯戸の家族へ謝礼を報い、当所の一家を南都にまとめて引き取り、姫を官人高光の妻とした。そこで姫は件の守り仏をもって父母と姉の菩提のために一宇を建立することを慧灌に

While [her father] had gone up to Nanto (Nara), during his absence, the stepmother deeply envied the third daughter (Princess Ikaho) and drowned the older second daughter in the Azuma River, killing her. She furthermore repeatedly plotted to kill the youngest daughter, Princess Ikaho, as well. However, this princess carried a small statue of the Thousand-Armed Kannon that her birth mother had given her as a memento in a protective pouch, never letting it leave her person. Due to this divine protection, she escaped from mortal danger and hid herself in the household of Yukoji in Ikaho village.
When news of this terrible event during the absence was sent to Nanto, by this time the father Ieshige had already passed away, so the elder brother Iesada soon returned home, divorced the stepmother and sent her back to her family, rewarded the Yukoji family with thanks, gathered the household from this place and brought them to Nanto, and made the princess the wife of the official Takamitsu. Then the princess, with the aforementioned protective Buddha, [requested] Ekwan to build a temple for the salvation of her parents and sister...
