現代語訳
法を庶民に教え給うた。それより後、行基、弘法の両師もまた諸国を行脚して、道路河橋温泉の地を開かれたが、その中でも当所の温泉は特別の霊泉であるとされている。これほど尊い温泉であるのに、今の人は医薬のみを知って温泉の効能を知る者はほとんど少ない。古人双桂先生の著した『温泉小言』の書は、温泉出現の理を極め、病症によって益があるものと害があるものとの差別をよく弁じたので、医者をはじめ諸人も必ず心得るべきものであるから、その書の初めをここに出す。

Among these, the hot springs of this place are considered to be particularly sacred springs. Despite being such precious hot springs, people today only know about medicine and very few know about the efficacy of hot springs. The book "Onsen Shōgen" (Brief Words on Hot Springs) written by the ancient master Sōkei thoroughly examined the principles behind the emergence of hot springs and clearly distinguished between benefits and harms according to different medical conditions. Since this is essential knowledge for doctors and all people, I present the beginning of that book here.
