◎福井縣下の震災
今回の大地震にて最も惨状（さんじやう）を呈せしは愛知岐阜の二縣に過（す）ぎざれども彼の伊勢湾 断層（だんそう）
の方向より考察（かうさつ）する時は福井縣下も亦同様の震動（しんどう）ありしや疑（うたが）ひなし去れど世人が震災（しんさい）
を説くに當（あた）り其言の福井縣下に及ぶこと少（すく）なきは別に以（ゆゑ）あるなり編者の考（かんが）ふる所にては
同縣下は地質上（ちしつじやう）より言へは近古系統（きんこけつとう）の地質より成立（なりた）てる部分少なく之に加ふるに白山（はくさん）
噴火脈（ふんくわみやく）は其南部を通過して地盤幾分（ちばんいくぶん）か堅硬（けんかう）なり且同地方は冬時 降雪（かうせつ）の害（がい）あるを恐るゝ
が故に家屋（かをく）の建築（けんちく）も大に尾濃二國と異（こと）なる所ありて屋根（やね）には重量少なきコケラ等を用

◎福井県下の震災
今回の大地震で最も惨状を呈したのは愛知・岐阜の二県にすぎないが、あの伊勢湾断層の方向から考察すると、福井県下もまた同様の震動があったことは疑いない。しかし世間の人々が震災について語る際に、その言及が福井県下に及ぶことが少ないのには、別に理由がある。編者の考えるところでは、同県下は地質上、近古系統の地質から成り立っている部分が少なく、それに加えて白山の噴火脈がその南部を通過しており、地盤がいくらか堅硬である。また同地方は冬に降雪の害があることを恐れるため、家屋の建築も大いに尾張・美濃の二国と異なる点があり、屋根には重量の少ないコケラ（薄い木片）などを用いた家が多いため、その被害の割合もいくらか減少したものと思われる。しかしながら、その現象から推測すると、同県下にも真名川沿岸の山崩れなど、かなり著大なものがあるので、もし同県の地質が他の二県と同様であれば、その惨状はさほど愛知・岐阜にも劣らなかったであろう。今、同県下における震災の概略を記載すると、十月二十八日の鶏鳴（夜明け前）より空の色が朦朧として四方を覆うようであったが、午前六時三十八分に至り、轟然として大地が大きく揺れ、屋上の瓦や石を飛ばし、家屋・土蔵などを押し潰し、土煙が陰々と立ち上ったので、「ああ、これは地震だ」と人々は生きた心地も

◎ Earthquake Disaster in Fukui Prefecture
While the most devastating conditions from this great earthquake were confined to the two prefectures of Aichi and Gifu, there is no doubt that, when considered from the direction of the Ise Bay fault line, Fukui Prefecture also experienced similar tremors. However, there is a particular reason why those who speak of the disaster rarely extend their discussion to Fukui Prefecture. In the editor's estimation, the prefecture has relatively few areas composed of geologically recent strata, and furthermore, the volcanic vein of Mount Hakusan passes through its southern part, making the ground somewhat harder and more solid. Moreover, since the people of the region fear the damage caused by heavy snowfall in winter, the construction of their houses differs greatly from that of the two provinces of Owari and Mino; as many houses use lightweight wood shingles (kokera) for their roofs, the proportion of damage was likely reduced to some degree. Nevertheless, judging from the phenomena observed, there were quite significant occurrences in the prefecture as well, such as landslides along the Manakawa River. Had the geology of Fukui Prefecture been the same as that of the other two prefectures, its devastation would surely have been in no way inferior to that of Aichi and Gifu.
