第4号の空き家、大仏崩れ門脇の土塀などはいずれも崩れ、また大仏瓦町の瓦窯は大半が破損し、すでに製造した瓦も大破壊となった。粟田および五条坂、その他の陶器窯および陶器の破損が多く、大仏馬町の陶器窯の内一か所は、火を焚いている最中に崩れたため、その火が隣の小家に移り、大事に及ぼうとしたが、居合わせた陶器職工たちが寄り集まってようやく消し止めたため、焦熱の惨劇は演じられずに済んだ。何はともあれ、京都には珍しい地震であって、この稿を草するうちにも数回の小震があり、よって「万歳楽、万歳楽」と筆を置く。（この一項は日の出新聞による）
●大津市の地震 滋賀県下大津市においても同日同時に大地震が発生し、その性質はやや急激で、市民は争って難を所外に避けるなど、その騒ぎは他所と異なるものではなかった。この地震のため、滋賀県庁のごときは損害を受けたものの筆頭であって、その破損箇所は正庁・知事官房・同書記室・内務部長室・第一課・第三課・収税部・議事堂等であるが、中でも東の暖炉の煙突は落下し、楼上の第三課のアーチも崩落して、壁に亀裂を生じた箇所は非常に多かった。師範学校・大津衛戌・大津学校等は幸いにして大した損所はなかったが、市内川口町の瀬戸物商四、五軒では、飾ってあった陶器類がいずれも棚から落ちて粉砕し、そのために莫大な損失を生じた。馬場村にある近江麻糸紡績会社の煙突は上部が破壊し、同村の高橋幾次郎方では天井裏の漆喰が落ちてきて、同人の父・甚太郎が顔面および右腕に負傷した。松本村の瓦師・井上弥平方の瓦竈は地震のため破裂し、その隣にある近更の掛け屋敷にも多少の損所があった。四宮町・天孫神社の石の大鳥居は中ほどの継ぎ目より上部において三寸ほど南に傾き、義仲寺・三尾神社その他の神社にある石灯籠は大概転倒して粉砕した。以上の外、瓦・壁の脱落、高塀の転倒等は枚挙にいとまがないが、幸いにして死者等は一人もなかった由である。
●彦根町の地震 江州彦根町の地震は、その震力は大津よりもやや激烈であって、同地の家々では棚に上げてあった物は揺り落ち、壁は裂け、高塀は倒れ、襖・障子等が外れたのは被害の少ないものであった。家屋の全潰は二十四戸、半潰は五十四戸で、家屋の倒潰した下に圧死したのは、犬上郡北青柳村大字中藪の大野松右衛門（六十歳）、彦根町大字中藪上片原の片野次郎吉の妹タキ（六歳）、同町大字中藪土橋の安居捨吉の長男字之助（八歳）の三名であり、いずれも棟木等に打たれて無惨な最期を遂げた。また負傷したのは、北青柳村大字中藪出村の外彌（五十二歳）、彦根町中藪土橋の小林捨吉の実母ソノ（六十二歳）、同町の安居捨吉の母ワエ（六十二歳）、同町大字安養寺の鎌倉スエ……

The roof-tile kilns in Daibutsu Kawaramachi were more than half destroyed, and the tiles already manufactured were also greatly damaged. There was extensive damage to pottery kilns and ceramics in Awata, Gojōzaka, and other areas. At one pottery kiln in Daibutsu Umamachi, the kiln collapsed while firing was in progress, and the fire spread to a neighboring small house, threatening to become a serious incident. However, the pottery workers who were present gathered together and barely managed to extinguish it, thus averting a fiery tragedy. In any case, this was a rare earthquake for Kyoto; even while writing this article, several minor tremors occurred, and so the author lays down the brush with a cry of "Manzairaku! Manzairaku!" ●The Earthquake in Ōtsu City In Ōtsu City, Shiga Prefecture, a great earthquake struck on the same day at the same time. Its character was somewhat sudden and violent, and citizens rushed to flee outdoors—the commotion was no different from other places. The Shiga Prefectural Government Office was among the first to suffer damage; the damaged areas included the main hall, the Governor's secretariat, the clerk's room, the head of internal affairs' office, the First Section, the Third Section, the tax collection department, the assembly hall, and others. The eastern fireplace chimney collapsed, the arch of the Third Section on the upper floor also crumbled, and cracks appeared in the walls in numerous places. The Normal School, Ōtsu Garrison, Ōtsu Schools, and others fortunately suffered no significant damage. However, four or five pottery shops in Kawaguchi-chō within the city suffered enormous losses as their displayed ceramics all fell from shelves and shattered. The chimney of the Ōmi Hemp Yarn Spinning Company in Baba Village was destroyed in its upper section. At the residence of Takahashi Ikujirō in the same village, plaster fell from inside the ceiling, injuring his father Jintarō in the face and right arm. The roof-tile kiln of tile-maker Inoue Yahei in Matsumoto Village burst due to the earthquake, and the nearby rented residence also suffered some damage. The large stone torii gate at Tennson Shrine in Shinomiya-chō tilted about three sun (approximately 9 cm) southward from its middle joint. Stone lanterns at Gichūji Temple, Mio Shrine, and other shrines mostly toppled and shattered. Beyond these, tile and wall collapses, the overturning of high walls, and so on were too numerous to list, but fortunately there were reportedly no fatalities whatsoever.
●The Earthquake in Hikone Town The earthquake in Hikone Town, Ōmi Province, was somewhat more violent in force than that in Ōtsu. In households throughout the town, items placed on shelves were shaken off, walls cracked, high fences toppled, and the displacement of sliding doors and paper screens was among the lesser damages. Twenty-four houses were completely destroyed and fifty-four were half-destroyed. Those who were crushed to death beneath collapsed buildings were: Ōno Matsūemon (age 60) of Aza Nakayabu, Kita-Aoyagi Village, Inukami District; Katano Jirōkichi's younger sister Taki (age 6) of Kamikatabara, Aza Nakayabu, Hikone Town; and Agui Sutekichi's eldest son Jinnosuke (age 8) of Dobashi, Aza Nakayabu, Hikone Town—three persons in total, all of whom met a tragic end, struck by ridge beams and the like. Those who were injured included: Sotomura Gaiya (age 52) of Aza Nakayabu, Kita-Aoyagi Village; Kobayashi Sutekichi's birth mother Sono (age 62) of Dobashi, Nakayabu, Hikone Town; Agui Sutekichi's mother Wae (age 62) of the same town; Kamakura Sue of Aza Anyōji, the same town…
