Indicated conditions: melancholia; excessive heat rising to the head; headache; hernia/lower abdominal pain (senki); numbness; dizziness; constipation; chest congestion; vaginal discharge (leukorrhea); metrorrhagia (abnormal uterine bleeding); hemorrhoids; lower back pain.
Effective for all internal conditions; replenishes qi and blood; moistens the skin; kills all manner of parasites.

**Ashinoyu Section One and a half ri from Kiga; twenty-eight chō from Takisaka**
Hot spring efficacies: lukewarm water with an astringent taste.
Indicated conditions: bruises; strained muscles; beriberi; wet eczema/skin sores; underarm odor (bromhidrosis); syphilitic sores; chancre; five types of hemorrhoids; headache; hernia/lower abdominal pain; gonorrhea; wind-related ailments; athlete's foot; ringworm; bone pain; lower back pain; coldness in the lower extremities.
Contraindicated conditions: stroke/paralysis; cuts and wounds; consumptive disease (tuberculosis-like wasting illness); leprosy (Hansen's disease).
One, the "Bottomless Bath" (Sokonashi-yu): a bath where stones are laid at the bottom and hot water wells up through the gaps between them.
One, the Middle Bath (Naka-no-yu).
One, the Small Bath (Ko-buro).
Note: When the "curtain bath" (maku-yu) is in use, the curtains bearing each inn's crest are hung at both entrances to the bathroom, and guests from other inns are not admitted.
