一、国内で召し使う者については、なおさら軽く召し置くべきである。定められた以上の高給で召し抱えた場合は、主人の不調法（不都合）とみなされる旨である。
一、請人（保証人）については、よく吟味した上で、請状（保証書）の文言に念を入れて申し付けるべきである。
一、女性については、定めの通り一ヶ月五日を出すべき旨であり、請人のことについても改めて申し付けるべきである。
右の趣旨を各々の家来の者たちへ堅く申し付けるべき旨であるので、その意を得られるよう願う。以上

○他所の家中へ奉公に罷り出る者がいれば、肝煎（仲介人）が下請（保証）に立つことは御法度である。親子兄弟以外は、いかなる一類・筋目の者であっても、他所へ就職する際には下請に立つことは申すまでもなく、口請（口頭での保証）に立つことも申してはならない。もしやむを得ない事情があって親子兄弟が下請に立つ場合は、主人または支配者がある者はその頭（上司）へ申し達し、指図次第にすべきことである。
右の趣旨を家来の者たちへ堅く申し付けること。組・支配のある各々は、さらに申し渡すべき旨であるので、その意を得られるよう願う。以上

○近年、奉公人が払底し、その上高給を望む者がいるため、度々御触を差し出してきた。しかしながら、一両年、特に奉公人が男女ともに出替の時節に色々と申し立てをして主取り（雇用主）を見合わせたり、あるいは休息のために引きこもる者が多くいると聞いているため、近年【朱書の脇書】「宝暦四年当春」「同五年去春」「同六年よりは近年となる」改めて町・在々の支配頭の各々へ御書付をもって仰せ渡された通り、右のような者は親子兄弟であっても暫くも手前に置いてはならない。もし在々で他の支配の者がやむを得ず引きこもった場合は、人代（代理人）を立てるべき旨である。もっとも、他所・他領の奉公に決して出してはならない。また、町・在ともに子供が多くいて親兄弟のもとへ戻っている者、あるいは在辺で小商いなどをして日稼ぎをしている者については、奉公に出すよう、必ずそれぞれ申し付けること。もし相背く者がいれば、その所の役人の曲事（不正）とする旨が仰せ出されたので、いよいよそのように心得ること。もし差し支える事柄があれば、

○ If there are those who go into service in the households of other domains, it is strictly forbidden for intermediaries (肝煎) to act as their guarantors (下請). Other than parents, children, and siblings, no matter what kind of relative or connection they may be, when someone finds employment in another domain, acting as a guarantor goes without saying, and they must not even act as an oral guarantor. If there is an unavoidable circumstance where parents, children, or siblings must act as guarantors, those who have a master or administrator must report to their superior and act according to their instructions.
The above principles are to be strictly communicated to retainers. Those who have group supervisors (組支配) should further pass on these instructions, so please take heed. End.

○ In recent years, servants have become scarce and furthermore there are those who demand high salaries, so ordinances have been issued repeatedly. However, over the past year or two, particularly when it comes time for servants of both sexes to rotate positions, many have been heard to make various claims to size up potential employers, or withdraw under the pretense of rest. Therefore, in recent years 【red ink margin notes】"Hōreki 4, this spring," "same 5, last spring," "from same 6, it becomes 'recent years'"—revised instructions were issued by written notice to the supervisory heads of towns and villages, stating that such persons should not be kept at home even for a short time, even if they are parents, children, or siblings. If those in outlying villages under other jurisdictions withdraw due to unavoidable circumstances, they should provide a substitute. Moreover, they must absolutely not be sent into service in other places or other domains. Furthermore, in both towns and villages, those who have returned to live with parents and siblings despite having many children, or those in rural areas engaged in petty trade and day labor, must be firmly ordered to enter domestic service.
