◦御家中面々家来之内痛病気を申立御当地町家之者縁類を求其者引請ニ而快気候ハヽ
直ニ御国表へ相返シ可申旨其主人証文を取請右病気痛之様子口上書を以被相達是迄
願之通ニ済来候事ニ候然所近年痛病気を申立御当地町方へ下り候而快気之上も直ニ此表ニ
桛等致シ或者病体為指儀ニ而無之候而も町方へ下り桛奉公等致候者共有之段相聞不届之事ニ候

## 安永七年（1778年）戌年
### 江戸にての口達（口頭による通達）
◦ 御家中の家臣の中で、病気・怪我を申し立て、江戸の町方の者の縁者を頼ってその者に引き受けてもらい、回復した場合はすぐに国元へ返すべき旨、その主人が証文を取り、病気・怪我の様子を口上書をもって届け出て、これまではその願い通りに処理されてきた。
しかるに近年、病気・怪我を申し立てて江戸の町方へ下り、回復した後もそのまま江戸に留まって奉公などをしたり、あるいは病体を装うわけでもなく、ただ町方へ下って奉公などをする者が出てきていると聞き及んでいる。これは不届きなことである。
奉公等を希望する者は、以前より国元においてその支配頭に願い出た上で、やむを得ない事情がある場合に限り、願い通りに出ることができる。江戸のお屋敷に勤めている者であっても、奉公等を望む場合は、一度国元へ帰った上で願い出るべきところ、近年これを守らない者がいると聞き及んでいる。これは不埒の至りである。
今後はその主人がしっかりと調査し、病気・怪我等を偽っている者については、その事情を記して届け出ること。町方で引き受けた者からも、国元の保証人に対して文書を送るべきであり、回復して帰国した場合はその支配頭まで届け出ること。遅滞が生じた場合は、国元の保証人を連れ出すよう申し付けることになるので、あらかじめ家来の者へも厳しく改めて申し付けておくべき旨である。以上。

## An'ei 7 (1778), Year of the Dog
### Verbal Communication Issued in Edo
◦ Among the retainers of the domain's samurai households, when someone claims illness or injury, seeks out a townsperson relative in Edo to take them in, and recovers, they are supposed to be sent back to the home domain immediately. Their master was to obtain a written pledge and submit a verbal report detailing the nature of the illness or injury, and until now such requests had been handled accordingly.
However, in recent years, cases have been coming to light of individuals who claim illness or injury, go down to the Edo townspeople's quarters, and even after recovering, remain in Edo performing service, or go down to the townspeople's quarters and take up service there without even feigning illness. This is an outrageous matter.
Those who wish to take up service should, as has always been the rule, petition their supervising head official in the home domain first, and only proceed if circumstances are deemed unavoidable. Even those serving at the Edo residence who wish to seek service elsewhere must return once to the home domain before making such a request. Yet in recent years there have been those who do not follow these procedures, which is the height of impropriety.
Henceforth, each master shall conduct a thorough investigation, and for those who have falsely claimed illness or injury, the details shall be documented and reported. Those in the town quarters who have taken in such individuals shall also correspond in writing with the guarantors in the home domain. Upon recovery and return home, this must be reported to the supervising head official. Should delays occur, it will be ordered that the guarantors in the home domain be summoned. Therefore, masters are to strictly remind their retainers of these rules in advance. The above is hereby communicated.

◦ Last night, a section of the tenement quarters (nagaya) of the residence on Reiganjima partially burned down. As a result, a gesture of self-restraint and inquiry is being made, and everyone is to conduct themselves with due decorum and restraint in all matters. Furthermore, it has been ordered that the shutters on the windows of the front tenement quarters are to be kept closed. Let this be understood. The above is hereby communicated.

Please issue instructions accordingly to the members of your group. The above is hereby communicated.
