○博奕・賭け事の勝負について、近来特に幕府より厳重なお達しがあり、これまでも度々御触れを出してきたことである。さらに堅くこれを守るべきであり、もし心得違いの者があれば、厳重に御沙汰（処罰）が及ぶであろうから、面々の家来の末々まで油断なく申し付けておくべき旨であるので、その意を得られるべきである。以上。

○博奕・賭け事の勝負について、幕府より厳重なお達しもあり、これまで度々御触れにて制禁してきたことは、皆が承知しているはずであるが、なかなか止まらず、特に新春のわずかな賭け事ならば差し支えないと心得ている向きもあるやに聞こえる。つまるところ、侍たる者として恥ずべき極みであるから、すべて賭け事の勝負については堅く無用にすべきである。もし背く者を見聞きした場合は、早速その筋（担当の役所）へ届け出るべきである。その場で見逃しておき、後日に発覚した場合は、当人と同様に御沙汰（処罰）が及ぶであろうから、わずかな賭け事であっても賭けの儀は厳しく慎むべき旨、【朱で囲み「改めて」】【朱書の脇書「猶又」】お達しがあったので、

○ Regarding gambling and wagering, in recent times there have been particularly strict orders issued from the shogunate, and notices to this effect have been issued repeatedly. These must be observed even more strictly, and should there be any persons who misunderstand their obligations, severe punishment shall be meted out. Therefore, each person should ensure that this is communicated without fail to their retainers down to the very lowest ranks. The intent of this proclamation should be well understood. The above.

Note: The above represents the standard form used in recent years up to the 3rd year of Kōka, Year of the Horse (1846).

○ Regarding gambling and wagering: although there have been strict orders from the shogunate, and prohibitions have been issued through repeated proclamations up to this time, which everyone should be well aware of, such activities have by no means ceased. It is furthermore heard that some have come to believe that modest wagering during the New Year season is permissible. This is, in the end, the height of shameful conduct for those who are samurai. Therefore, all forms of gambling and wagering are strictly and utterly prohibited. Should anyone see or hear of persons violating this, they must immediately report the matter to the appropriate authorities. Should they overlook it on the spot and the matter come to light at a later date, the same punishment as that given to the offender shall apply. Therefore, even for the smallest wager, gambling of any kind must be strictly refrained from — thus it has been【red circle marking: "anew"】【red ink marginal note: "furthermore"】 proclaimed.
