【三巻三十五丁裏】
△六里ある道を四人として馬（むま）三／疋（ひき）
にてのりあわする時は何里つつの日
といふ時に
壱人／前（まへ）に四里／半（はん）つつのる也
但（たたし）壱里半のりてはかわり又壱里半
のりてはかはりせんくりにのりかへかへ
仕上(？)は等（とう）分（ふん）にのり申候
法（ほう）にまつ六里あれは馬三疋六里
をかくれは三六の十八里に成此十八里を

現代語訳
【三巻三十五丁裏】
△六里ある道を四人で馬三疋に乗り合わせる時は、一人あたり何里ずつ乗るかという時に、
一人前に四里半ずつ乗るのである。
ただし、一里半乗ったら（馬を）替わり、また一里半乗ったら替わり、順番に乗り替え乗り替えすれば、最終的には均等に乗ることができる。
方法として、まず六里あれば、馬三疋に六里を掛けると三六で十八里となる。この十八里を人数四人で割ると、一人前に四里半ずつあたるのである。

また四里半を馬の数三で割ると一里半になる。それゆえ、一里半ごとに乗り替え乗り替えすれば（全員が）均等になるのである。
《題：第十八》 三人で袴二着を月に二十日ずつ着るということも、三里の道を三人で馬二疋に乗る算と同様である。

△ When four people share three horses along a road of 6 ri, how many ri does each person ride?
Each person rides 4 ri and a half.
However, they ride 1.5 ri and then change horses, ride another 1.5 ri and change again; by taking turns one after another, in the end each person rides an equal share.
The method: First, since there are 6 ri, multiply 3 horses by 6 ri to get 3×6 = 18 ri. Divide these 18 ri by the number of people, 4, and each person's share comes to 4.5 ri.

Furthermore, divide 4.5 ri by the number of horses, 3, to get 1.5 ri. Therefore, by changing horses every 1.5 ri, all persons will end up with an equal share.
《Title: Problem 18》 The problem of three people sharing two hakama (formal divided skirts), each worn for 20 days per month, is the same type of calculation as the problem of three people riding two horses along a road of 3 ri.
