【四巻八丁裏】
商（しやう）に廿の次（つき）に三と置（をき）下法をは一位さけて廿を
一／倍（はい）にして四千と置此下に又三と置さて法にて

【四巻八丁裏】
商（しょう）に二十の次に三と置く。下法をいう。一位（ひとくらい）さけて、二十を一倍にして四十と置く。この下にまた三と置く。さて法にて、商の三をもって下法に呼ぶ。二三（にさん）の六百、三四（さんし）の百二十、三三（さんさん）の九と置く時、法に七百二十九坪あり。これを実（じつ）にて引き払う也。さて商を見れば、百二十三間とあり。

積（つもり） 七京六兆八億二万五千二百二十五坪
右の積（つもり）を四方（しほう）にしては何程（なにほど）に成るぞというとき
答曰（こたえていわく）

Place 3 next to the 20 in the quotient (*shō*). State the lower method (*kahō*): shift one place, double the 20 to make 40, and place it. Below this, place 3 again. Now, using the method, call the quotient's 3 against the lower method. Two-threes make 600; three-fours make 120; three-threes make 9. When these are placed, the method yields 729 *tsubo*. This is to be subtracted from and cleared against the dividend (*jitsu*). Now, looking at the quotient, it reads 123 *ken* on each side.
