【四巻十四丁裏】
△又右之ふねに水（みつ）なにほと入そと云時
○八石六斗四升入と云
先（まつ）長（なかさ）六尺に四をかけて廿四と成（なる）又へち
に三尺に四をかけて十二と成これに又廿四
をかくれは二八八と成これにふかさ三尺を
かくらハ八石六斗四升としれ申候
△又おけをつもる時は口さし渡（わたし）四尺八寸七分三
りん三毛にそこさしわたし四尺六寸七分
三り三毛を加（くわ）へて九尺五寸四分六り六毛有

現代語訳
【四巻十四丁裏】
△また、右の船に水がどれほど入るかという時——
○8石6斗4升入ると言う。
まず、長さ6尺に4をかけて24となる。また別に、3尺に4をかけて12となる。これにさらに24をかければ288となる。これに深さ3尺をかければ、8石6斗4升と知れ申し候。
△また、桶を積もる（容積を計算する）時は、口のさしわたし4尺8寸7分3厘3毛に、底のさしわたし4尺6寸7分3厘3毛を加えて、9尺5寸4分6厘6毛ある。これを2つに割れば4尺7寸7分3厘3毛となる。
【四巻十五丁表】
これに4をかけて、またそれを左右（双方）に置いてかけ、さて79をかけて、また深さをかければ、8石6斗4升となるなり。
右、桶の積もりよう、大方に積もる時は右のごとく仕り候。ともいずれも、まわりよりすぼまり、また四方よりすぼまりたる物は、底・口合わせて2つに割り申す事は悪く（正確ではなく）、詳しい本当の積もりようは口伝（くでん）、私の書に有之（これあり）。

△Also, when asking how much water the aforementioned trough can hold:
○The answer is: it holds 8 koku 6 to 4 shō.
First, multiply the length of 6 shaku by 4 to get 24. Separately, multiply 3 shaku by 4 to get 12. Multiply this again by 24 to get 288. Multiply this by the depth of 3 shaku, and one finds 8 koku 6 to 4 shō.
△Also, when calculating the volume of the bucket, add the mouth diameter of 4 shaku 8 sun 7 bu 3 rin 3 mō to the bottom diameter of 4 shaku 6 sun 7 bu 3 rin 3 mō to get 9 shaku 5 sun 4 bu 6 rin 6 mō. Divide this by 2 to get 4 shaku 7 sun 7 bu 3 rin 3 mō.

Multiply this by 4, then place that result on both sides and multiply them together, then multiply by 79, and further multiply by the depth, and one arrives at 8 koku 6 to 4 shō.
As for the above method of calculating the volume of a bucket: when calculating roughly, one proceeds as described above. However, for objects that taper from their circumference or taper from all four sides, simply averaging the top and bottom [diameters] and dividing by 2 is inaccurate. The truly precise method of calculation is transmitted orally (kuden) and is found in my own written notes.
