積（つもり）九垓六京一兆五億四千八百〇三坪あり。
右の積を開立にて何ほどに成るぞと云う時、
答えて曰く、
九百八十七間四方。
【四巻十六丁表】
実（じつ）に積（つも）り置き、三乗の法にて位（くらい）を見る時、百の位なり。商に九百と立つる。下法にして再び（ふたたび）上り、九百を立法にて下法に商を乗ず。九九（くく）、八億一万として、再び一・十・百と上りて、商を法に乗ずる。八九七垓二京一九九兆、実にて之を除く。実の余り、二垓三京二兆五億四千八百〇三坪。

When asked: by extracting the cube root of the above volume, what does one obtain?
The answer states:
987 ken square.
【Volume 4, Folio 16 Recto】
Place the dividend (jitsu) by accumulation. When examining the place values by the method of cubing, it falls on the hundreds place. Set 900 as the quotient (shō). Bring it down as the divisor (kahō), then raise it again twice; with 900 set as the established divisor (ritsu-hō), multiply the quotient by the lower divisor. Nine times nine [gives] 8 oku 1 man; raise again through the ones, tens, and hundreds places, and multiply the quotient by the divisor. [This yields] 8 gai 9 kyō 7 [chō], 2 kyō 1 [chō] 9 9 [oku] chō; subtract this from the dividend (jitsu). The remainder of the dividend: 2 gai 3 kyō 2 chō 5 oku 4,803 tsubo.
