△大／豆（まめ）一／粒（りう）をひにひに一はいにしておるに何／程（ほと）に
成（なる）そも云（いふ）時に数（かす）は右と同（とう）前（せん）也／但（たたし）？に五千／粒（りう）人と云時に

【四巻二十六丁裏】
△大豆一粒を日に日に一倍にして、ある日数ではどれほどになるかと問うとき、粒の数は先ほどと同じである。ただし（一升に）五千粒入るとして計算すると：
○千七十三石七斗四升五合八勺二才四撮になるという
△芥子（けし）一粒を日に日に一倍にして、三十日間積み重ねると：
○五億三千六百八十七万九百十二粒になるという
ただし、一升に四百万粒入るとして計算すると、どれほどあるかと問うとき：
○一石三斗四升二合〇才七撮二圭八粟あり
計算法：一粒を八算の五の段で三十度かけると、上記の数になることが分かる。また、三十度まで掛けずに早く知る方法は口伝にある。また「一升に四百万粒入る」というのは、一分（ぶ）に
【四巻二十七丁表】
四粒ずつ並べるとして、一寸四方六面に六万四千粒入り、これを六十二と半分（62.5）にかけると、一升に四百万粒入ることになる。

右を升ではかって割ると：

右の升目（容積）はどれほどの（大きさの）

△ Starting with 1 soybean and doubling it every day for a certain number of days, the number of beans is the same as before. However, if we calculate with 5,000 beans per shō:
○ It comes to 1,073 koku, 7 to, 4 shō, 5 gō, 8 shaku, 2 sai, 4 satsu.
△ Starting with 1 poppy seed and doubling it every day, the total accumulated over 30 days is:
○ 536,870,912 seeds.
If 1 shō holds 4,000,000 seeds, how much would that be?
○ 1 koku, 3 to, 4 shō, 2 gō, 0 sai, 7 satsu, 2 kei, 8 zoku.
Method: Multiplying 1 seed by the "5-row of the 8-dan" (i.e., repeatedly multiplying by 2) thirty times yields the above number. A faster method for finding the answer without going through all 30 steps is transmitted orally. Also, the statement that "4,000,000 seeds fit in 1 shō" is based on the fact that 4 seeds fit per bu (one-tenth of a sun),

arranged in rows, so that 64,000 seeds fit in a cube of 1 sun on each side (a six-faced cube). Multiplying this by 62.5 gives 4,000,000 seeds per shō.
△ Starting with 1 poppy seed and doubling it every day, after 50 days there would be:
562,949,953,421,312 seeds.
Measured out in shō and converted, this is:
1,407,374 koku, 8 to, 8 shō, 3 gō, 5 shaku, 5 sai.
If one asks into how large a
storage box (karauto) this quantity of grain would fit:
31 ken, 4 shaku, 9 sun, 2 bu, 5 rin, 2 mō
It would fill a cubic storage box with six equal faces.
