まず三寸を左右に置いて掛ければ九となる。これを四百本に掛ければ三千六百となる。右に別に置く。また左に四寸を左右に置いて掛ければ十六となる。これにて右の三千六百を割れば、四寸角二百二十五本と知れるのである。

△There are 400 pieces of timber with a 3-sun square cross-section and 2-ken length. When exchanging these for timber with a 4-sun square cross-section and 2-ken length, how many 4-sun square pieces can be obtained?
4-sun square pieces: Said to be 225 pieces.
First, place 3 sun on both sides and multiply to get 9. Multiply this by 400 pieces to get 3,600. Set this aside on the right. Next, on the left, place 4 sun on both sides and multiply to get 16. Divide the 3,600 on the right by this, and you will find the answer to be 225 pieces of 4-sun square timber.
