上に6尺5寸を掛けると、23丈1寸になる。
また左に横18間4尺を置いて、1間より上に6尺5寸（0.65）を掛けると12丈1尺となる。これを右の23丈1寸に掛けると、1丈あたりの坪数は278坪4分2厘1毛となる。これを1坪の法（換算係数）である4尺2寸2分5厘で割ると、658坪9分8厘とわかる。これを田地の法定換算値「3（百坪＝1反）」で割ると、2反1畝28歩9分8厘とわかるはずである。

【別解】同じく、田の縦が35間2尺6寸ある場合、1間以下の端数である2尺6寸を0.65で割ると、35間4（厘）となる。
また横18間4尺ある場合、4尺の端数を0.65で割ると18間6（厘）になる。また1寸余りが生じる場合は切り捨てる。縦と横を左右に置いて掛け合わせると、

わずかに前の計算結果と差異があるが、このように置いて計算するのがよい。見合わせて勘を働かせることが肝要である。1間より内（以下）に尺・寸の端数がある場合は、0.65で割って、少し余りがあれば切り捨ててよい。また少し足りない場合は（切り上げて）加えて置くことにする。場合によって、時と場合に応じて、いずれも見合わせて勘を働かせるべきである。

【Alternative Method】 Similarly, when a field has a length of 35 ken 2 shaku 6 sun: divide the sub-unit fraction of 2 shaku 6 sun (below 1 ken) by 0.65, yielding 35 ken 4 (rin). Likewise, for a width of 18 ken 4 shaku, divide the 4 shaku fraction by 0.65, giving 18 ken 6 (rin). Any remaining fraction of 1 sun or so should be discarded. Placing the length and width side by side and multiplying them together yields:
○ 658 tsubo, 4 bu, 4 rin, it is said.
There is a slight discrepancy from the previous result, but it is good practice to arrange the calculation in this manner. One should compare results and exercise judgment. When there are fractions in shaku or sun below 1 ken, divide by 0.65, and if there is a small remainder, it may be discarded. Conversely, if slightly short, round up and add it in. Depending on the circumstances and the occasion, one should always compare and apply good judgment accordingly.
