エトロフ島のこと
一、エトロフ島はクナシリ島の隣島であって、彼の島（クナシリ）から渡る入り口の西南、北海（オホーツク海）側の、険しくそびえる峻山の麓に、イトイヤ・ヘルヘトという二ヶ所があり、クナシリ島へ渡海する船が天気（日和）を伺う場所である。ここより北へ一里のところにモヨロという所に蝦夷の村がある。この村の乙名（おとな）をクラレルという。この乙名の稼ぎ場（漁場）にて、浜辺に古い錠（いかり）を用いた頭（錨頭・おもり）があり、その重さは七十貫目ほどである。松前漂流船留（まつまえひょうりゅうふなどめ）の記録によって調べたところ、紀州（紀伊国）の小園村、堀川屋八左衛門の手船（持ち船）で、沖船頭（おきせんどう）は友右衛門、宝暦六年（戊子・1756年）十一月七日に豆州（伊豆国）浦賀の湊（みなと）で……

On the Matter of Etorofu Island
One: Etorofu Island is the neighboring island of Kunashiri Island. At two places called Itoiya and Heruhetо, located at the foot of steep, towering mountains along the northwestern shore of the Northern Sea (Sea of Okhotsk), at the crossing point from Kunashiri Island, ships awaiting favorable weather for the voyage to Kunashiri Island would gather. One ri to the north of this location is a place called Moyoro, where there is an Ainu village. The village elder (otona) is called Kurarerу. At this elder's fishing grounds on the beach, there is an old anchor weight, weighing approximately seventy kanme. Upon investigation through the records of the Matsumae Drifting Vessel Registry (Matsumae Hyōryū Funadome), it was found that this was a vessel belonging to Horikawaya Hachiemon of Kosonomura village in Kishū (Kii Province), with a ship's captain (oki sendō) named Tomoemon. On the seventh day of the eleventh month of the sixth year of Hōreki (Tsuchinoe-Ne, 1756), at the port of Uraga in Tōshū (Izu Province)...
