翌朝に至り四つ過ぎ（午前十時頃）に火がことごとく鎮まり、
人々は安堵の思いをなした。
以上が御府内の凶変のあらましである。それより
近在の北の方、奥州街道は千住宿で強く、それより草加、越谷に至りゆるやかになり、栗橋を渡り古河、宇都宮を限りとする。○西は甲州街道、内藤新宿より下は甚だゆるやか。○南の方、東海道は品川宿で強く、川崎宿はゆるやか、神奈川宿は甚だ強く潰れ家が多い。それより小田原を限りとする。○東の方、行徳、舟橋の辺りは強く、潰れ家、死人が多い。成田の辺りは大いにゆるやか。○水戸街道は新宿、松戸辺りも潰れ家が多く、小金辺りは強く、それより常陸の土浦を限りとした。○西北、中山道は板橋より鴻巣、熊谷辺り、本庄宿を限りとし、その先は大いにゆるやかという。これにより、おおよそ三、四十里四方で、御府内はそのちょうど中央にある。
○この地震の節、東に当たり雷のように光が
現れ、しばらくして消えた。これは地中に迫った陽気が一時に発したためであろう。同月十八日昼頃より雨が降り出し、夜に入って風雨が激しく、夜半の頃に及び雷の音が三、四度聞こえ、稲妻もあった。これも地中の気が発したのであろうか。
○この時、梁に圧されたり、あるいは焼死する者の数は知れない。あるいは潰れ家を掘り起こして無事に出る者もあり、また死に至る者もある。中でも類焼の場所は、梁に圧されながらもいまだ死なず、生きながら焼き殺された者も多いという。その野辺送りは東西へ奔走し、あるいは長持ち担ぎ台に何人ともなく載せて運ぶ。さらに多い時は大八車に載せて引いて行くなど、誠に古今未曾有の珍事天変とはいいながら、見るも語るも涙の種で、実に言語に絶したというべきである。

The above is an outline of the calamity that befell the shogunal capital. As for the surrounding areas: to the north, along the Oshu Highway, Senju post station was severely affected, then the shaking became milder toward Soka and Koshigaya, crossing Kurihashi bridge, with the limits reaching Koga and Utsunomiya. ○To the west, on the Koshu Highway from Naito-Shinjuku downward, the shaking was very mild. ○To the south, on the Tokaido, Shinagawa post station was severely affected, Kawasaki post station was mild, Kanagawa post station was extremely severe with many collapsed houses, extending to the limits of Odawara. ○To the east, around Gyotoku and Funahashi, the shaking was strong with many collapsed houses and deaths. Around Narita it was very mild. ○On the Mito Highway, around New Station and Matsudo there were many collapsed houses, around Kogane it was strong, extending to the limits of Tsuchiura in Hitachi Province. ○To the northwest, on the Nakasendo from Itabashi through Konosu and Kumagaya areas to Honjo post station as the limit, beyond which it was very mild. Thus, within an area of approximately thirty to forty ri in all directions, the shogunal capital was at the very center.
○During this earthquake, toward the east, light appeared like lightning
and disappeared after a short time. This was likely due to the yang energy compressed underground being released all at once. On the 18th of the same month, rain began falling around noon, and entering the night the wind and rain became fierce. Around midnight, thunder was heard three or four times with lightning as well. This too was perhaps the release of underground energy.
○At this time, the number of those crushed by beams or burned to death is unknown. Some were dug out from collapsed houses and emerged safely, while others died. Particularly in areas of fire spread, many who were pinned under beams but not yet dead were burned alive. The funeral processions rushed east and west, with some carrying multiple bodies on palanquin stretchers, and when there were too many, loading them onto large eight-wheeled carts to pull them along - truly an unprecedented calamity and natural disaster. Though called a rare celestial phenomenon, it was a source of tears whether witnessed or spoken of, truly beyond description.
