迚朝夕城の方ニ向イて拝しけるとなり
曰小恩ヲ知て大恩ヲ知ずと言つるも人々｜皆（みな）
地頭大官の大御恩厚き事を常（つね）に不知
欺る大変の時こそ思ひ知れりと也
丹波嶌之事
常に不思議成は伊那利山善光寺の間
成丹波嶌こそ此度弐度の難をのがれける
始の大地震動ぜし節も其あれ少く
わづか成ばかをく三軒計ゆりたをしけり
其外｜無事（ブジ）成此外近辺河中嶌に
をゐてあれぬ所は少しとぞ聞へり丹波
じまは火難もなく（ナク）のがれたり又々四月十三日
大水にもはるかなる水上にて水弐ツに割レ
稲荷山と善光寺の方ニ寄て流れ丹波嶌は其
間に成りて水難こと〴〵くのがれけるとなり
現代語訳
（人々は）朝夕、城の方角に向かって拝礼したということである。
「小恩を知りて大恩を知らず」と言うが、人々は皆、領主や大官の深い御恩を普段は知らずにいたものの、このような大変事の時にこそ、はじめてそれを思い知ったということである。
丹波島のこと
常々不思議なことに、稲荷山と善光寺の間に位置する丹波島は、今回の二度の災難をのがれた。
最初の大地震が発生した際も、その被害は少なく、わずか三軒ほどが揺れ倒れた程度であった。
その他は無事であった。これ以外の近辺の川中島においては、被害を受けなかった場所は少なかったと聞いている。丹波島は火災の難もまぬがれた。また、四月十三日の大洪水においても、はるか上流で水が二つに分かれ、稲荷山と善光寺の方へそれぞれ寄って流れ、丹波島はその間に位置することで、水害をことごとくのがれたということである。

The people bowed in prayer toward the castle morning and evening, it is said.
It is said that, as the expression goes, "people acknowledge small favors but not great ones" — the people had never in their ordinary lives appreciated the deep benevolence of their lord and the great officials, but it was precisely at the time of such a great calamity that they came to truly understand it.
Concerning Tanbashima
What has always been remarkable is that Tanbashima, located between Inariyama and Zenkoji, escaped both disasters this time.
Even during the initial great earthquake, the damage there was minimal — only about three houses were shaken and toppled. All others were unharmed. In contrast, it is said that there were few places in the nearby river islands (kawanakajima) that escaped damage. Tanbashima also escaped the disaster of fire. Furthermore, during the great flood of the 13th day of the 4th month, the waters split into two far upstream, flowing toward Inariyama on one side and toward Zenkoji on the other, while Tanbashima lay in between, thus escaping the flood disaster entirely, it is said.
