used as his banner, and employed the nine-star lantern as his small horse banner (this tradition continues to this day). From this time, various houses began using large and small horse banners. In the same year, Suruga-no-kami was granted Kawagoe Castle. In the 10th year of Tenshō (1582), after Takeda Katsuyori's destruction, Suruga-no-kami used military strategy to advance into Kōzuke and Shinano provinces, bringing them under Hōjō control. Due to these military achievements, he received the castle grounds of Matsuida in Kōzuke Province from Ujimasa, along with other rewards in various places. Kawagoe Castle and the old domains were granted to his eldest son Magonokurō. In the 18th year of Tenshō (1590), during the Siege of Odawara, Suruga-no-kami was besieged at Matsuida, but after Odawara fell and Ujimasa committed suicide, Suruga-no-kami also took his own life. Suruga-no-kami Masashige's son, Dōdōji Magonokurō Naoshige (born in Musashi, Yūzan's grandfather), accompanied Ujinao on his pilgrimage to Mount Kōya in Kii Province when Odawara fell. There, he received the inner intention of Gongen-sama (Tokugawa Ieyasu) and was personally granted a sword. From then on, he was entrusted with affairs concerning Ujinao during his lifetime (he still possesses the written order from that time). After Ujinao's death, through the entreaty of the Princess of Nishi-no-kōri, Naoshige was summoned by Taittokuin-sama (Tokugawa Hidetada) and served in the page corps. In the 7th year of Keichō (1602), when he had a fight with a fellow guard named Ōno Mohei at Fushimi Bungo Bridge, since the opponent had many supporters, both Naoshige and a man named Marumo Ushi-no-suke joined forces to cut them down. During this, Mohei mistakenly stabbed Naoshige with a spear, and because the wound was deep, he died (Mohei fled the scene immediately). Naoshige's son, Dōdōji Shūgoku-suke Shigehisa (born in Musashi, Yūzan's father), was taken in by his maternal grandfather Yura Shinano-no-kami after Naoshige's death. Through Taittokuin-sama's inner intention, he was summoned by Kazusa-no-suke-sama, but after his lord's disinheritance, he lived as a ronin until his death. Yūzan served Asano Inaba-no-kami-dono (Nagaharu) in his youth, and during the Genroku era received a stipend as a ronin from Matsudaira Higo-no-kami-dono (Masayoshi), but later declined and left that house to be summoned to our domain. His eldest son Shigetaka was granted new knowledge (stipend), and even afterward, a stipend was granted for his elderly care.
Summoned in the 2nd year of Kyōhō, Year of the Fire Rooster (1717) during Lord Yoshikuni's reign
