御名代をもって御礼を勤める儀につき、御老中・堀田相模守（正亮）殿へ、御留守居・加藤長右衛門（正敏）が罷り出て、御内意を相伺い候ところ、御幼年様の御登城の趣に候えば、御礼の儀は御名代等には及ばず、御老中方へ御使者を差し出され、御使者柄の儀は御家格もあるべく候間、その通りが然るべき旨、相模守殿の用人をもって申し聞かされ候。
一、十二月十三日、御内証（ごないしょう）より、公方様の御年賀につき、女使をもって山王御札守一通・干鯛一箱を献じられ（去る二日に御伺い済み）、その節、女使へ拝領物を仰せ付けられ候。右女使の拝領物の御礼の御文を、御本丸老女中へ差し出され候。
一、同月十五日、福次郎（堅房）様（越後・糸魚川）、初めて御目見。右の御礼のため、御用番・松平右近将監（武元）殿、大御所様御付御老中・西尾隠岐守（忠尚）殿、大納言様御付御老中・秋元但馬（凉朝）殿へ、御使者・御留守居介（かい）・御使番を差し出され候。
一、同月十八日、今般の御代替わりにつき、新居御関所預り・松平伊豆守（信復）殿へ、御家老の判鑑（はんかん）を引き替えるため、御留守居・横田作大夫（尚道）をもって、左の通り差し出され候。

Regarding the matter of performing the formal salutation (o-rei) by proxy (o-nadai), the castle liaison officer (o-rusuigashira) Katō Chōuemon (Masatoshi) visited Senior Councilor (Rōjū) Hotta Sagami-no-Kami (Masaaki) to discreetly inquire about the proper procedure. He was informed, through the Senior Councilor's attendant (yōnin), that since it was the case of a young lord making his castle visit, there was no need for a formal proxy salutation; rather, it would be sufficient to dispatch an envoy to the Senior Councilors, and that the appropriate rank and standing of such an envoy should be in accordance with the family's status — this was the response conveyed.
Item: On the 13th day of the 12th month, from the Inner Household (o-naishō), in observance of the New Year's greetings to the Shōgun (Kubō-sama), a female messenger was dispatched to present one Sannō protective talisman (o-fuda) and one box of dried sea bream (hoshidai). (This had been duly approved on the 2nd of the month.) On this occasion, a gift of appreciation (hairyōmono) was bestowed upon the female messenger, and a letter of thanks for said gift was sent to the Senior Ladies-in-Waiting of the Hon-maru.
Item: On the 15th of the same month, Fukujirō (Katafusa)-sama (of Itoigawa, Echigo Province) made his first formal audience (o-memie). To express gratitude for this occasion, envoys — the castle liaison officer's deputy (o-rusuigashira-kai) and the messenger officer (o-tsukaiban) — were dispatched to: the Duty Senior Councilor (Goyōban) Matsudaira Ukon-shōgen (Takemoto); the Senior Councilor attached to the Ōgosho-sama (Retired Shōgun), Nishio Oki-no-Kami (Tadanao); and the Senior Councilor attached to the Dainagon-sama, Akimoto Tajima (Suzutomo).
Item: On the 18th of the same month, in connection with the recent change of lordship (o-daigawari), regarding the handover of the official seal registry (han-kan) for the Arai Checkpoint (o-sekisho) in Tōtōmi Province, which is under the custody of Matsudaira Izu-no-Kami (Nobunao), the castle liaison officer Yokota Sakudayū (Naomichi) was dispatched to present the following:
