英語訳

Item: On the fifth day of the fourth month, the large-guard (ō-goban) officer Amemori Heihachi was dispatched as an envoy to Yamamura Jinbei-dono for the purpose of exchanging the chief retainer's (karō) official seal register (hankan) at the Fukushima Checkpoint in Shinano Province. On this occasion, five bundles of hōsho paper were presented as a gift. Note: As [the domain lord] was still of a young age, no written letter was sent. Regarding the gift, while there was no precedent for such a gift at the time of the previous lord's succession, it was nevertheless sent because generous hospitality had been rendered on every occasion of the seal register exchange. Sub-item: As the wording of the chief retainer's seal register was identical to that sent to the Arai and Usui checkpoints on the eighteenth day of the second month past, it is not recorded here. Item: On the same day, the inspector (metsuke) Kawaguchi Genshirō was dispatched from the Hitotsubashi residence. In the study (shoin) and inner sitting room, he held official discussions with our domain's inspectors Nara Gonzaemon and Kumagai Kohei. The chief retainer(s) and various officials came forward to meet with him, and he was granted an audience with the [domain lord] in the inner chamber (o-ima), during which the lord's intentions were conveyed. Thereafter, a formal meal (one soup, five dishes) was served in the connecting room (watari-no-ma). Note: The matter of the Hitotsubashi inspector being dispatched here was announced through the Hitotsubashi steward on the fourth, the previous day. As such visits will be made regularly hereafter, they will not be recorded each time. Item: On the seventh day of the same month, Unshōji (Hakuzen) was granted his leave (o-itoma) at Edo Castle, and was commanded to receive three sets of formal robes (o-jifuku) as per established precedent. Accordingly, an envoy was dispatched to the Commissioners of Temples and Shrines (Jisha-bugyō) as an expression of gratitude. Item: On the tenth day of the same month, at the residence, the steward (go-yōnin) Daidōji Magokurō was [summoned], and regarding the matter that the excessive expenditures since last year had grown so great as to interfere with the domain's governance, the designated officials (go-yōkakari)...
