（前頁より続き）仰せ付けられ候間、御用人・御奉行・御留守居共に申し談じ、御入用を相減らし、御為になり候様に取り扱い申すべき旨。且つ又、御書院番頭御用人 嶋田清左衛門（繁卿）、御側 稲葉要人（正明）へ、御側廻り万端事多くこれある事につき、右同様、御倹約御用掛を仰せ付けられ候段、月番御家老 芦田図書（賢納）より申し渡され之。
但し、御国においても去る月二十九日、御倹約を仰せ出され之。
一、四月十一日、一橋御屋形より御呼び出しにより、御家老 芦田図書賢納・岡部造酒助（主貞）、御中老 明石縫殿（紀房）が罷り出で候ところ、刑部卿（宗尹）様、御座の間において御目見を仰せ付けられ、左の通り御意これあり。
御意之趣
義丸は幼年につき候間、公辺の儀は格別、国元仕置等の儀、随分入念に申すべき事。
右の節、一橋御家老御取り合い申し上げ之。
一、同月十三日、一橋御屋形へ御用人 大道寺孫九郎（繁卿）が罷り出で、御用人 小宮山利助より申し来たり候ところ、去る十一日、刑部卿（宗尹）様へ、御国御城廻り石垣破損所並びに御堀浚等の御伺書を御内見に入れ置き候ところ、刑部卿様何の思召もこれなきにつき、御用番へ御伺書を差し出さるべき旨、御用人 小宮山利助をもって仰せ出され之。これにより、一橋御屋形へ右の御請けのため、御家老 芦田図書（賢納）（以下次頁に続く）

Accordingly, the steward(s) (go-yōnin), the commissioners (bugyō), and the resident officials (rusui) were to consult together and handle matters in such a way as to reduce expenditures for the benefit of the domain. Furthermore, regarding the fact that the senior guard-captain and steward Shimada Seizaemon (Shigeyoshi) and the personal attendant (o-soba) Inaba Kaname (Masaaki) also had a great many matters to attend to in their service to the lord's person, they were likewise commanded to serve as officials in charge of economization (go-kenkyaku go-yōkakari). This was communicated to them by the duty-month chief retainer (tsukiban karō) Ashida Zushō (Kenno).
Note: In the home domain as well, an order of economization was issued on the twenty-ninth day of last month.
Item: On the eleventh day of the fourth month, summoned from the Hitotsubashi residence, the chief retainers Ashida Zushō Kenno and Okabe Mikinosuke (Nusada), and the middle elder (chūrō) Akashi Nuido (Kifusa), presented themselves, whereupon His Lordship the Gyōbukyō (Munetada) granted them an audience in the reception room (o-za-no-ma), and conveyed the following intentions:

As Yoshimaru is of a young age, and apart from matters relating to the Shogunate, you must attend with great care to matters of domain governance.
The Hitotsubashi chief retainer relayed this communication on that occasion.
Item: On the thirteenth day of the same month, the steward Daidōji Magokurō (Shigeyoshi) presented himself at the Hitotsubashi residence, and received word from the steward Komiyama Risuke. It was conveyed that a written inquiry (o-ukagaisho) concerning the damaged sections of the stone walls around the castle in the home domain and the dredging of the castle moats, which had been submitted for the private review of the Gyōbukyō (Munetada) on the eleventh, had been reviewed, and since the Gyōbukyō had no particular objections or comments, it was commanded through the steward Komiyama Risuke that the written inquiry should be formally submitted to the duty commissioner (go-yōban).
