One: On the seventh day of the eighth month, in connection with a marriage proposal (*endan*), the Senior Steward (*go-yōnin*) Daidōji Magokurō (Shigenori) called upon the Shogunal Attendant (*sobashū*) Lord Ōoka Izumo-no-Kami (Tadamitsu) and conducted a private consultation directly with him, whereupon his understanding and assent were obtained. It was further conveyed that it would be advisable to also make discreet inquiries to the Senior Councillor (*Rōjū*) Lord Hotta Sagami-no-Kami (Masasuke). Accordingly, on the eleventh day of the same month, Magokurō called upon Lord Sagami-no-Kami and submitted a document reading as follows: We have previously received word of this matter through informal channels. A marriage proposal was discussed between one of the daughters of the Lord of Owari Chūnagon and our [young lord] Oginomaru. In the spring of the past *己巳* year [1749], Lord Kuze Chūemon was sent by the Chūnagon-sama, and Lord Ogasawara Nuinosuke was sent on behalf of our Hyōbu-no-Tayū, and the internal agreement between both parties was duly concluded. Accordingly, it had been arranged that upon the Chūnagon-sama's visit to Edo, a formal inquiry would be made openly. However, as our Hyōbu-no-Tayū passed away last winter, the matter was postponed, and it has been privately discussed that the formal inquiry would be made during the coming winter. Although Oginomaru is still of a young age, since this marriage arrangement had already received informal approval during the time of the previous lord, we humbly inquire whether it would be acceptable to proceed with a formal inquiry during this coming winter, without there being any impediment to doing so. We respectfully seek your informal guidance on this matter. Respectfully submitted. Eighth Month One: On the twelfth day of the same month, the *rusui* (Edo caretaker) Yokota Sakudayū (Naomichi) was dispatched as envoy to the Senior Inspector (*Ōmetsuke*) Lord Ishikawa Tosa-no-Kami (Masamichi), and submitted the domain's population register (*kuni-ninbetsu-aratamechō*) as follows. (This was in accordance with the notice issued on the twenty-fifth day of the second month.) Memorandum *(Oboegaki)*
