現代語訳
（前ページより続き）求めず。ここをもって、念の入った長い序文に数枚の紙を費やすことを嫌い、今は趣向を変えて序文を書かないこととする。そこで矢立の使い古した筆を取って、版木の桜材に書き付けていわく——「天正本（原典）を無駄にすることなかれ」。このとき、凡例がないわけでもない。

(Continued from previous page) ...is not sought after. Therefore, disliking the idea of wasting several sheets of paper on a long and labored preface in the manner of an overly attentive author, I now change my approach and refrain from writing a formal preface. Instead, I take up the worn brush from my writing set and inscribe upon the cherry-wood printing block: "Do not let the Tenshō-bon (original text) go to waste." And yet, it cannot be said that there is no preface at all.
Written in the early spring (Mōshun) of Kansei 8, Year of the Bingchen (1796), in the spare moments of bookkeeping at a sundry goods shop.
