**没日（ぼつにち）**

陳（ちん）が言うには、没日を計算することで、欠食（日食）が起こる月の朔（新月の日）を知ることができる。およそ没日が、空日・十三日・十四日・二十五日・二十六日・二十七日にあたる場合は、その朔（ついたち）には必ず日食となる。しかしながら、陰暦・陽暦の限界の境（衢）に至って、六度あるいは八度を超えた場合には食は起こらない。また、その刻（時刻）を求めるに至って、夜中に当たる場合は、地下（地平線以下）での食となり、諸暦には載せない。ゆえに術（計算法）に従って刻限（時刻）および陰陽暦限を求めるものである。

**Botsu-nichi (Days of "Extinction" / Critical Days)**

Chen states: By calculating the *botsu-nichi* (days of extinction), one can determine the new moon days (*saku*) on which solar eclipses will occur. In general, when a *botsu-nichi* falls on a blank day, the 13th, 14th, 25th, 26th, or 27th day, a solar eclipse will necessarily occur on that month's new moon (*saku*). However, if [the sun] reaches the crossroads of the yin/yang calendar limit (*in'yō rekigen*) and exceeds six or eight degrees, then no eclipse will occur. Furthermore, when calculating the exact time (*koku*), if it falls in the middle of the night, this constitutes an eclipse below the horizon (*chika*), which is not recorded in the various calendars. Therefore, one follows the prescribed method (*jutsu*) to determine the precise time (*koku-gen*) and the yin/yang calendar limits.
