ものである。しかしながら、四書の中に記されていない算法が数多くある。私のような浅学の者が、『方圓秘見集』と名付け、それらの法に似たことを書き記すのは、他の人の目にも憚られるところがあり、また先人の著者たちの工夫・手立てをも薄めてしまうことになるかもしれない。それでも、私よりもさらに学の浅い人が、もしかすれば稽古の足しにでもなればと思い、書き集めるものである。

Such is what this book aims to be. Yet there are many methods of calculation that are not covered in the four collections. For a person of such shallow learning as myself to name this work the *Hōen Hiken-shū* (Secret Compendium of Square and Round [Calculations]) and write down things resembling those methods may well seem presumptuous to other eyes, and may even serve to diminish the ingenuity and efforts of those earlier authors. Nevertheless, I have compiled this collection in the hope that it might perhaps serve as some small aid in study and practice for those even less learned than myself.
