**Written Report Concerning the Circumstances of the Armed Uprising and Rampage**

As has already been reported previously: Ōshio Heihachirō, a former yoriki (officer) of the Osaka Town Magistrate's office, along with other yoriki, doshin (constables), persons subject to public punishment, and villagers from private domain territories, joined together; the ringleaders donned armor and, armed with fire arrows, large cannon, small firearms, spears, swords, and drawn blades, set fire to residences in the city at around the Hour of the Rooster (approximately 8 a.m.) on the 19th of this month, and proceeded to riot and rampage. In response, yoriki and doshin of the Town Magistrate's unit, iron-gun doshin of the Ojōban (castle garrison) unit, and others were assembled, and the unit's yoriki cornered and drove back the rebels at the crossroads of Awaji-machi. However, the rebels scattered and fled, and at the sites of the fires, the flames

grew increasingly fierce, burning approximately 119 town blocks in total. The fires were finally extinguished around the Hour of the Bells and a Half (approximately 11 p.m.) on the following night, the 20th. There were no incidents within the castle grounds. The Town Magistrate's Office, as well as all other units, made strict arrangements for the arrest of the rebels, and one after another, some have either met their end or been captured. Nevertheless, a great many of the co-conspirators remain at large even now. As some have also been apprehended by our own personnel, each party shall report separately regarding the numbers.
