山桜は春に先駆けて咲く。紅い蕾が霜の降りた枝に満ちている。人里離れた場所で、ついに誰が見るのだろうか。芳しい心は空しく自ら知るのみである。朝日を分けて照らすかのようであり、晩風が吹くのを恐れて疑うかのようである。色とりどりの美しさの意味を問おうとすれば、恐らく軽薄な者を驚かせてしまうだろう。
と詠んでいる。『十二詩選』に収録されている。宋の王安石の山桜の詩に
山桜は石を抱き松の枝に陰をなす。他の花と並び比べても咲くことが最も

遅い。幸いにも春風が寂しさを嫌って、香りを吹いて水を渡り人に知らせてくれることがある。
と詠んでいる。『介甫集』第八巻に見える。
このように、かの国（中国）にも桜を愛する人がいないわけではない。これらの詩を吟じてみると、我が国の桜もこのようである。中国の桜桃は桜のことではないという人もいるが、しかし

Mountain cherry blossoms bloom ahead of spring. Red buds fill the frost-covered branches. In secluded places, who will ultimately see them? The fragrant heart knows only itself in vain. It seems to divide and illuminate the morning sun, as if fearing and doubting the evening wind's blowing. If one wishes to ask about the meaning of its colorful beauty, it would likely startle frivolous people.
