疑（うたが）はしく所々（ところ〳〵）訪問（はうもん）せしに芝山鷲尾
全（まつたく）一 物（ふつ）二 名（めう）を是（ぜ）なりとす此 樹（き）芝山家（しばやまけ）
より出たるとも又 芝山（しばやま）に多（おほ）く生（しやう）ずるとも云
但八重とも一重ともいひがたし花の咲かり

現代語訳

【右丁】
疑わしいので各所を訪ね問うたところ、芝山と鷲尾は全く同一のものに二つの名がついているのだとする（説が正しいと思われる）。この木は芝山家より出たとも、また芝山の地に多く生じるとも言われている。ただし、八重であるとも一重であるとも言いがたい。花が咲いているうちから葉が出てきて、葉が出揃えば花は散ってしまう。

逆手桜（さかてざくら）

○怡顔斎が言うには「逆手桜は
芝山桜と同じ種である。一重であって、
花の形・大きさは全く芝山桜と同じである。
ただし、酔色（ほんのり赤みを帯びた色）があることが異なる点である。
芝山桜は色が白く、逆手桜は色が
薄赤い。近くで見れば芝山桜と
同じだが、遠くから眺めると逆手桜は（異なって見える）」

As this matter seemed doubtful, I made inquiries at various places, and came to conclude that Shibayama and Washinoo are indeed one and the same thing under two different names. This tree is said to have either originated from the Shibayama family, or to grow abundantly in the Shibayama area. However, it is difficult to say with certainty whether it is double- or single-petaled. Leaves begin to appear while the flowers are still in bloom, and once the leaves are fully out, the flowers fall.

Shibayama-zakura is white in color, while Sakate-zakura has a pale reddish hue. Viewed up close, it appears the same as Shibayama-zakura, but when viewed from a distance, Sakate-zakura (appears different)..."
