酔色（すいしよく）あり是をもつて分（わかつ）といへども又六
弁（べん）の内一 片（へん）狂（くる）ひありて帆（ほ）を立（たて）たるごとき
も有 故（ゆへ）に帆立（ほたて）にも惑（まど）ひ易（やす）ししかれども
帆立は白色なり逆手は帆立より少し
赤（あか）み有芝山帆立逆手少し宛（づゝ）の違（ちがひ）也
只色を以て分（わかつ）六 弁（べん）の内一 弁（べん）よぢれたる
ゆへ俗（ぞく）に此一品を逆手といふ

○怡顔斎（いがんさい）曰 帆立（ほたて）は芝山（しばやま）
と同種にて六 弁（べん）也又 中（うち）に一弁

号（なづく）逆手（さかて）と惑（まと）ひ易（やす）し逆
手は少 酔色（すいしよく）あり帆立（ほたて）は
芝山と同して色白し但（たゞし）
帆掛（ほかけ）とは別種（べつしゆ）也

現代語訳

【右丁】
（逆手桜は遠くから眺めると）酔色がある。これによって（芝山桜と）区別できるとはいえ、また六枚の花弁のうち一枚がねじれて帆を立てたようになっているものもある。そのため帆立桜とも混同しやすい。しかし帆立桜は白色であり、逆手桜は帆立桜よりも少し赤みがある。芝山・帆立・逆手は、それぞれわずかずつ違いがある。ただ色によって区別するのみである。六枚の花弁のうち一枚がねじれているため、俗にこの一品を逆手と呼ぶ。

○怡顔斎が言うには「帆立桜は芝山桜と同じ種であって、六弁である。また、その中の一枚の花弁が帆を立てたようになっているため、そのように名付けられた。逆手桜と混同しやすいが、逆手桜はわずかに酔色があるのに対し、帆立桜は芝山桜と同じく色が白い。ただし、帆掛桜とは別の種である。」

(Sakate-zakura, when viewed from a distance,) has a suishoku (flushed reddish tint). While this characteristic can be used to distinguish it (from Shibayama-zakura), there are also cases where one of the six petals is twisted and stands up like a raised sail. For this reason, it is easily confused with Hotate-zakura (Sail Cherry). However, Hotate-zakura is white in color, while Sakate-zakura has a slightly more reddish tinge than Hotate-zakura. Shibayama, Hotate, and Sakate differ from one another only by a small degree. They can only be distinguished by their color. Because one of the six petals is twisted, this variety is commonly called "Sakate" (literally, "reverse hand").

○Iganai said: "Hotate-zakura belongs to the same variety as Shibayama-zakura and has six petals. Furthermore, because one of the petals stands up like a raised sail, it is named accordingly. It is easily confused with Sakate-zakura; however, while Sakate-zakura has a slight suishoku (flushed reddish tint), Hotate-zakura shares the same white color as Shibayama-zakura. It should be noted, however, that it is a different variety from Hokake-zakura."
