○怡顔斎が言うには、「（小桜は）山桜の一種である。花は薄い色（淡い色）を帯びており、八重彼岸桜と同様に、花が密に集まって咲く。鎧（よろい）の威（おどし）に『小桜威』と呼ばれるものがあるが、この花の色にかたどって名付けられたものである。」

白桜（しろざくら）

【下段】
○鈍永が言うには、「（白桜は）山桜に似ており、色が潔白（清らかな白）である。一重咲きで、花びらは広く丸い。茎も葉もともに青（緑）みを帯びている。花の色が雪のようだとして『雪山桜』と呼ばれるものがあるが、それよりもさらに白い。これこそが『芳野（吉野）山桜』と呼ばれるものであろう。」

○Ikansai said: "Ko-zakura is a variety of Yama-zakura. Its blossoms are of a pale, delicate color, and like the Yaé-higan cherry, they bloom in dense clusters. In the ornamentation of armor, there is a style of lacing known as 'Ko-zakura-odoshi' (small cherry blossom lacing); this flower takes its name from resemblance to that color."

Shiro-zakura (White Cherry)

○Don'ei said: "Shiro-zakura resembles Yama-zakura but is of a pure, immaculate white. It is single-petaled, with broad and rounded petals. Both the stems and the leaves are green. There is a variety called 'Yuki-yama-zakura' (Snow Mountain Cherry) for the snow-like color of its blossoms, but Shiro-zakura surpasses even that in its whiteness. This is surely what is referred to as the 'Yoshino Yama-zakura.'"
