散（ち）らず枝にしぼみ付也 全体（ぜんたい）の花は
諸花（しよくは）の中の冨貴（ふうき）なるもの也ひらく事
遅（をそ）し桐谷の後（のち）にさく也又大江戸と
いふは花 法輪寺（はうりんじ）の茎（くき）みじかきをいふ

○怡顔斎いわく、八重咲きであって茎が長く、花房が垂れ下がる。桐谷の八重によく似ており、すなわち桐谷の変化（変種）である。色は濃いが、花びらの重なりは桐谷より薄い。盛りを過ぎても散らず、枝の上でしぼんでしまう。花全体の様子は、あらゆる花の中でも富貴（豪華で品格がある）なものである。開花するのが遅く、桐谷の後に咲く。また「大江戸」というのは、法輪寺の茎が短いものを指して言う。

○Ikansai states: This cherry has double blossoms (yaezaki) with long stems, and its flower clusters hang downward. It closely resembles the double-blossomed Kiritani cherry, and is indeed a variant (mutation) of the Kiritani. Its color is deeper, but the layering of the petals is less dense than that of the Kiritani. Past its peak bloom, the flowers do not scatter but instead wither and cling to the branches. The overall appearance of the flower is the most opulent and noble among all flowers. It blooms late, flowering after the Kiritani. Furthermore, what is called "Ō-Edo" (Great Edo) refers specifically to the variety found at Hōrinji Temple, which has shorter stems.
