霜雨を踏みながら前へと歩みを進め、誠に重き労苦を軽んじ、深き願いを求めて遂に達成した。西方の地を周遊すること十七年、あまたの国々を遍歴し、正しい教えを尋ね求めた。双林・八水（のほとり）では道の味わいに浸り、風を食（は）むがごとく（清澄な教えを）享受し、鹿苑・鷲峰においては奇（くす）しく□（欠字）異なる（光景・聖跡）を仰ぎ見て、先聖（先人の聖者たち）より至高の言葉を承り、上賢（高い賢者たち）より真の教えを受け取った。奥深き妙門（仏道の玄妙な扉）の深奥を探り、奥義の業（わざ）を精しく究めた。一乗・五律の道は、心の中を駆け巡り……

...treading through frost and rain, pressing ever forward, he truly made light of great hardships and pursued his profound vows until they were fulfilled. He traveled throughout the Western lands for seventeen years, traversing countless kingdoms and domains, inquiring and seeking after the true teachings. At the Twin Sala Trees and the Eight Waters, he savored the taste of the Way and drank in its winds; at the Deer Park and Vulture Peak, he gazed upon wondrous and extraordinary [sacred sites], received the supreme words from the sages of old, and accepted the true teachings from the worthies of high virtue. He plumbed the depths of the mysterious gate of the Dharma, and exhaustively mastered the profound secrets of its practice.
