（前頁より続く）……五夾（ごけう）あり。その上に差口（さこう）の二十間を加えれば、合計八十間となる。これが真の地径（ちけい）〔地径とは盤の「四」を指す〕と名付けるべき種（もと）である。そこで新たに矩（かね）を設けて〔最初に「三」と差口を測った矩は用いず、今また「四」を測るために、別に矩を設けるのである〕、「四」を地径の八十間に量り合わせる〔新たに渾発（こんぱつ）を開いて、この「四」を八夾（はっけう）に挟み、十間の矩と名付ける〕。その矩にて再び「三」を量ると〔「三」は初度・後度、二度量るのである。最初には差口と合わせて仮の地径八十間に用い、ここでは求程（きゅうてい）の間数に用いるのである〕、五夾（ごけう）ある〔一夾につき十間ずつである〕。五夾はすなわち五十間である。これが求程〔山の中心から真直ぐに立ち上がった高さ五十間〕の間数である。

(Continuing from previous page) …there are five夾 (go-keu). Adding the 差口 (difference interval) of twenty間 (ken) to this, the total comes to eighty間. This is to be designated as the seed (basis) for what shall be called the true地径 (chikei, ground diameter) [the ground diameter refers to "four" on the surveying board]. Thereupon, one sets up a new矩 (kane, right-angle measure) [discarding the矩 used to measure "three" and the difference interval at the first step, one now sets up a separate矩 for the purpose of measuring "four"], and matches "four" against the ground diameter of eighty間 [opening the渾発 (konpatsu, compass/divider) anew, one clamps this "four" in eight夾, naming it a矩 of ten間]. Using that矩 to measure "three" once more [note: "three" is measured twice—first combined with the difference interval and used as the basis for the provisional ground diameter of eighty間, and here it is used to determine the number of間 for the求程 (kyūtei, sought distance/height)], there are five夾 [at ten間 per夾]. Five夾 is thus fifty間. This is the number of間 for the求程 [the vertical height of fifty間 rising straight up from the base of the mountain].
