しとうて出けるはなさけふかき良等【郎等】や程なく
追付申すいかに姫君我御供申あけは御心易
かるへしとよう〳〵行は武蔵野の国川越に
着給ふいたわしや姫君は行春に仰けるは
たゝならず覚はいかなる身とや成￣リなんと
仰もあへす御産の結ほとかせ給ふあらかなしや
かゝる野の末山の中の人も住家なき所ニ而
此有様は何事そこららやかんのゑしきと成は
つへきに浅間敷サよとしはしきへ入給ひける行春

承野ゝの末山の奥￣ク成共行たゝ御命を全ふ
仕給ふへしと申上姫君嬉しく思召然は水を
たへと仰けれは太夫承水を求に出￣テにけるあら
不思議や仏神三寶もふひんにやおほしけん
国主玄官公駿河の国主に仰付られ一￣ト先都へ
登給ふか武蔵を一見有へきと此所を通リ給ふとて
姫君を御覧してふしきやかくすさましき原中に
かゝる女性只壱人住へき様の有へきやまゑん化生
のものやらんよし何にもせよ我都より

追いかけて出たのは、なんと情け深い郎等（従者）であろうか。程なく追いつき申し上げた。「姫君様、私がお供申し上げれば、お気持ちも楽になりましょう」と、ようやく行くうちに武蔵野の国の川越に着かれた。ああ、お気の毒なことに、姫君は行春に仰せられるには、「ただならぬ様子を感じる。私はいったいどのような身になってしまうのだろうか」と仰せになる間もなく、お産の気配が始まってしまわれた。ああ、何と悲しいことか。このような野の果て、山の中の、人も住まない所でこのような有様とは何たることか。このまま産気づいて産屋を作ることもできないまま終わってしまうかもしれない。なんと浅ましいことかと、しばらく草むらにお入りになった。行春は、

「かしこまりました。野の果て山の奥であろうとも、行き続けて、必ずお命をまっとうさせていただきましょう」と申し上げた。姫君は嬉しくお思いになり、「それならば水を持ってきてほしい」と仰せになったので、太夫（行春）は承知して水を求めに出かけた。ああ、不思議なことよ。仏・神・三宝もお哀れみになったのであろうか。国主玄官公が駿河の国主に任じられ、一先ず都へ上られるところ、武蔵をひと目見ておこうとこの場所を通りかかられ、姫君をご覧になって、「不思議なことだ。このような荒涼とした原の中に、このような女性が一人でいられるはずがない。魔縁か化け物の類であろうか。いずれにしても、私が都より

In such a desolate field, deep in the mountains, in a place where no one lived, for this to happen—what was to be done? She might reach the final stages of labor and perish without even a birthing shelter being built. How wretched, she thought, as she retreated into the brush for a moment. Yukiharu said:

"I understand. Even if it be at the edge of the fields or deep in the mountains, let us press on, and I shall ensure that your life is preserved," he reported. The princess was heartened by this and said, "Then please fetch some water." The retainer agreed and went out to find water. How wondrous! Perhaps the Buddhas, gods, and the Three Treasures took pity on her. Lord Genkan, the provincial lord, having been appointed lord of Suruga Province, was on his way up to the capital, and wishing to take a look at Musashi, happened to pass through this very place. Seeing the princess, he thought, "How strange! There could be no reason for such a woman to be alone in such a desolate field. Could she be some supernatural being or transformed creature?
