あたりを見れハ人の足跡馬の足かた斗有￣リくせ
られましますかと先ミとり子をふくさ物より
出シ給ひ見れハ鏡を割て裏に一首書付給ふ
扨は此姫をは如何様￣ニにも人となし給ハゝ

いかて捨行へきと男の身にておさないをふくさ
なからふところにおし入人馬の足跡をだゝひ

申人有リ田地四万町持給ふゆへに世の人四万

辺りを見れば、人の足跡と馬の足形ばかりがあった。「連れ去られてしまったのか」と、まずみどり子を袱紗の物より取り出して見れば、鏡を割って裏に一首書き付けてある。「さては、この姫をどうにかして人並みに育て上げてくださったならば、いつかまた会おうという誓いの、あの御方の末の子に違いない。どうして捨てていけようか」と、男の身でありながら、幼子を袱紗ごと懐に押し入れ、人馬の足跡をたどって跡を慕って西の方へ登っていったのは、頼もしいことであった。ようやく進んでいくと、相模の国

Just as the Tayū arrived and was about to enter through the main gate of the Chōja's estate, the Chōja himself happened to be standing at the gate. The Chōja observed this scene and thought, "What a remarkable traveler," and gazed intently at the northern lady. As he spoke of what he saw, the couple approached the Tayū and asked, "What is the matter?" The Tayū replied, "This is my lord. For certain reasons, we are searching for their mother.
