呼るれともいまた子と言物候はねは我ゝに
たまわれかし養いくいたし行ゝハともニ尋て
参らせん太夫殿ももろともに止リ給へと仰ける
太夫承リ叶うましとは存候ともとかく主君の
御為なり仰に任せ参らせんと夫婦に渡し申ける
夫婦は御悦限なくお乳やめのと相添いつき
かしつきそたてさせ給ふ程なく月日の重リて
はや十三になり給ふ御成人にしたかひて言に
やさしくたとへかたなき御姿誦書ハ幷なし
然に太夫も此所に年月を送り給ふか有時太夫殿
長者ふうふの御なさけ深キゆゑかりそめなから
はや十三年の春秋おくり御心差の御恩ン尽し
かたく覚へ候さりなから姫君の御事わすれ候
ハす何とそ尋申今の内に一ト度めくり相度候也御
いとまと有けれハ夫婦きこしめし尤なりとも
かくも御心にまかせたまへと有けれハ姫君は
聞シ召いかにや行春かた時片時もはなれまゐらせ
す十三に成まて長者ふうふの御かいほう
現代語訳
呼ばれてはいるものの、まだ子というものがおりませんので、私どもにお預けください。養い育てて、いずれは一緒にお探し申し上げましょう。太夫殿もご一緒にお留まりくださいと仰った。
太夫は承り、叶うまじとは存じますが、とにかく主君のためなり、仰せに従い申し上げようと、夫婦にお渡し申した。
夫婦は喜び限りなく、乳母や女房を相添え、大切に養い育てなさった。程なく月日が重なって、早くも十三歳におなりになった。ご成人に従って、言葉に優雅で比べようもないお姿、読み書きは並ぶ者なし。
しかし太夫もこの所に年月を送りなさったが、ある時、太夫殿は「長者夫婦のご情け深いゆえ、仮そめながらも早や十三年の春秋を送り、ご厚意のご恩は尽くし難く覚えます。さりながら姫君の御事を忘れることはできず、何とか尋ね申し、今のうちに一度巡り会いたく存じます」とお暇を申し出た。
夫婦は聞し召し、もっともなりとも、このようにお心のままになさってくださいと申された。
姫君はお聞きになって、「いかにや行春よ、片時も離れ参らせず、十三になるまで長者夫婦のご介抱で

Though they were called childless, since they still had no child of their own, they said, "Please entrust her to us. We will raise and care for her, and eventually search together for her mother. Sir Dayū, please stay with us as well."
Dayū replied, "Though I believe it may not be possible, for the sake of my lord, I shall comply with your request," and he entrusted the child to the couple.
The couple rejoiced without limit, appointing wet nurses and attendants to carefully raise and nurture her. Before long, months and years passed, and she had already reached the age of thirteen. As she matured, she became graceful in speech with incomparable beauty, and her reading and writing skills were unmatched.
However, Dayū had also spent many years in this place, and at one point he said, "Thanks to the deep kindness of this wealthy couple, I have spent thirteen years here, however temporarily, and I feel I cannot adequately repay their profound benevolence. Nevertheless, I cannot forget about the princess. I somehow wish to search for her and hope to encounter her once more while I still can." He then requested leave.
The couple listened and said, "That is quite reasonable. Please do as your heart desires."
