か様に読あまり名残をおしみ長者ふうふ姫
君もろとも伏ししつみてなき給ふ斯て
姫君母の御形見の鏡の歌を御覧してかくなむ
わすれしや父とひとつにそなわりて
猶もけんしんの跡そ恋しき
か様に詠し割たる鏡に添書してはや
立給ふ長者此よしつく〳〵御覧して誠物
の哀は是かとよ姫十三に成まて月よ花よと
そたて明ぬ暮ぬとせい人するを待かねしに
別るゝ事こそかなしけれさりなから親孝行
のためなり此うへは大夫殿に姫をは参らせ
給ふ尋あい給ひて又こそめくり逢へきと
別レ給ふそ哀なり斯て行春は姫君をとも
ないてなく〳〵長者の家形を出急キ給へは
程もなく駿河の国藤川田子の浦名所
〳〵打詠行ケは程なく清水か関に着キ日
も暮に成リしかハ宿からんとて門も大キに
しやけん長者か門に着そも此長者大悪ふ
現代語訳
このように詠んで、あまりに名残を惜しみ、長者夫婦と姫君は皆ともに伏して泣き崩れなさった。そうして姫君は母の形見の鏡に書かれた歌をご覧になって、このように詠まれた。
「忘れてしまったのでしょうか、父と一つになって育てられて、なお母の慈愛深い跡が恋しいことです」
このように詠んで割れた鏡に添え書きをして、すぐに立ち上がられた。長者はこの様子をつくづくとご覧になって、「本当に物の哀れというのはこのことだろうか。姫が十三歳になるまで、月よ花よと大切に育て、夜が明けた暮れたと世話をするのが待ち遠しかったのに、
別れることがこんなにも悲しいとは。けれども親孝行のためなのだから、この上は太夫殿に姫をお渡し申し上げよう。きっと探し当てられて、また巡り会えるだろう」と別れを告げられたのは哀れなことであった。こうして行春は姫君を連れて、泣く泣く長者の家を出て急がれると、程なく駿河国の藤川、田子の浦など名所を詠みながら歩いていくと、やがて清水の関に着いた。日も暮れになったので宿を取ろうとして、門も大きく立派そうな長者の門に着いた。ところがこの長者は大変な悪人で

Composing this poem, they were so reluctant to part that the wealthy man, his wife, and the princess all collapsed together in tears. Then the princess looked at the poem written on her mother's keepsake mirror and composed this verse:
"Have you forgotten? Raised as one with father, I still long for the traces of mother's compassionate heart."
Having composed this poem and written it alongside the broken mirror, she immediately stood up. The wealthy man observed this scene intently and said, "Truly, this must be what they call the pathos of life. Until the princess turned thirteen, I cherished her like the moon and flowers, eagerly awaiting each dawn and dusk to care for her.
How sad it is to part! But this is for the sake of filial piety, so I shall entrust the princess to the Minister. Surely you will find each other and meet again." Their parting was truly sorrowful. Thus Yukiharu, accompanied by the princess, tearfully left the wealthy man's house and hurried on. Soon they passed through famous places in Suruga Province such as Fujikawa and Tago-no-ura, composing poems as they traveled. Eventually they arrived at Shimizu Barrier. As evening approached, they sought lodging and came to the gate of what appeared to be a wealthy man's large and magnificent residence. However, this wealthy man was extremely wicked.
