ましひらに〳〵と給ひて其侭天ンに上りたちまち
白キ御へいとなりする〳〵と舞下り姫君の胸の
内に飛ヒ入しはふしき成けるしたひなり斯て其後
都源の下野の守御願ひにて御国下野に下らんと
供人あまた召つれ都をはまた夜をこめて出ル
身のいつしか君にあふ坂の関をは何と志賀の浦
浪も日数も重りて我身のおはりいかならん爰は
いつくととほくみ三河の国や八橋の蜘手に物や
おもふらんかねて聞しも是やらんと打詠｜小（サ）
夜の中山打過て爰はいつくと菊川や里打
過て程もなく駿河国に着給ふ雲のあしたか夜ヲ
込メて明てぞ見ゆる箱根山さかみの国もはや
過て遠ク成リ行武蔵野々草踏分ケて恋衣いつ
くと爰を尋るにはや下野にそ着給ふ国の掟は扨置
ぬ君姫の筆を尋はやと思召御供の人々に御物語
有けれはそれはさる御事なれ共あまりあわたゝ
しく候に先々御使被遣其後はともかくも御心にま
かさるへしと申上実も尤と答頓て御ふみを

ましてその通りでございますと申し上げて、そのまま天に上り、たちまち白い幣（ぬさ）となって、するすると舞い下り、姫君の胸の内に飛び入った。不思議なことであった。
このようにして、その後都にいる源の下野守は、願いが叶って御国下野に下向しようと、供人を大勢召し連れ、都をまだ夜の明けぬうちに出発した。いつしか君に会える逢坂の関をどのように志賀の浦波も日数も重なって、我が身の終わりはいかならん。ここはどこかと遠く見ると、三河の国の八橋の蜘蛛手に物思いをするのであろうか。かねて聞いていたのもこれであろうかと詠嘆し、小夜の中山を通り過ぎて、ここはどこかと菊川や里を通り過ぎて程なく駿河国に到着された。雲の足高、夜を込めて明けて見える箱根山、相模の国ももはや過ぎて遠くなっていく。武蔵野の草を踏み分けて恋衣、どこかここを尋ねるに、はや下野に到着された。
国の政務はさて置いて、君は姫の行方を尋ねたいと思召し、御供の人々に御相談があった。それはごもっともなことでございますが、あまりに慌ただしくございますので、まず先に御使いを遣わして、その後はともかくも御心のままになさるべきでしょうと申し上げた。まことにもっともであると答えて、すぐに御文を（書かれた）。

Thus, afterward, Lord Minamoto no Shimotsuke no Kami in the capital, having had his wish granted, prepared to go down to his province of Shimotsuke. Taking many retainers with him, he departed the capital while it was still night. "When shall I meet my beloved at Osaka Barrier?" Like the waves at Shiga Bay, the days accumulated, and he wondered what would become of him. Looking far into the distance wondering where he was, perhaps at Yatsuhashi in Mikawa Province with its spider-web-like waterways, one might be lost in contemplation. "Could this be what I had heard about?" he mused as he passed over Saya no Nakayama.
Wondering where he was as he passed Kikugawa and its villages, he soon arrived in Suruga Province. With Mt. Ashitaka shrouded in clouds, night turned to dawn revealing Mt. Hakone. Sagami Province too was now far behind. Treading through the grasses of Musashino plain in his traveling robes of longing, searching here and there, he finally arrived in Shimotsuke.
Setting aside the governance of the province for now, the lord wished to search for the princess and consulted with his retainers. "That is indeed reasonable, but things are rather hectic at the moment. Perhaps you should first send a messenger, and afterward do whatever pleases your heart," they advised. "Indeed, that is most reasonable," he replied, and immediately wrote a letter.
