猿は女房・娘を反古紙置き場に置いたので、稼業のもので濯ぎ洗濯物などして娘を育て、縁を求めて両国米沢町八丁目に店を借り、近所に美しき芸者があって、今日はお屋敷、明日は船へ行くと取り替え引き替え、大振袖銀胸の櫛、天秤棒ほどの箆かうの様子。家内が羨ましく思い、親の欲目に十人並と思い、不島中村の流儀ではないけれども、踊りを習わせ、お屋敷は御厩、船遊山に出し稼ぎんと稽古させる。
油屋の一人娘におそめとて、姉さん転びなさんな。

Seeking marriage prospects, he rented a shop in Ryogoku Yonezawa-cho 8-chome. There was a beautiful geisha in the neighborhood who would go to mansions today and to pleasure boats tomorrow, constantly changing her large-sleeved kimono and silver chest ornaments and combs, with hair ornaments as large as carrying poles. The family envied this lifestyle, and with parental bias thinking their daughter was as good as anyone, though not in the Fujima or Nakamura dance styles, they had her learn dancing and made her practice with the intention of sending her to work at mansions and pleasure boat excursions to earn money.
