現代語訳
猿は蟹が所より「晩には話においでください」と言われ、昼のうちより楽しみにしていた。謀り事があることは夢にも知らず、ずいぶん如才のないようだが、「猿利口」とはよく言ったものである。
そこへ海月がやって来た。二人の先祖は心安く、猿の事について、海月は大被りで、親の○○で息子の海月も、おしゃべりで、今度の猿がどのような大きな事があるだろうかと口が滑ったのを聞きかじり、琉球より押し送りで、一走りに来て、猿に教えたので、
びっくりして肝を潰す。よくよく猿というものは肝に堪えるものと見えた。
英語訳
The monkey was told by the crab, "Please come for a chat in the evening," and had been looking forward to it since daytime. He had no idea in his dreams that there was a plot against him. Though he seemed quite tactful, the saying "clever monkey" is indeed well put.
Then a jellyfish came along. The ancestors of the two were on familiar terms. Regarding the monkey's matter, the jellyfish was greatly affected, and through his parent's [unclear characters], the son jellyfish was also talkative. He caught wind of loose talk about what great matter might befall this monkey, and came rushing all the way from Ryukyu to inform the monkey.
[The monkey] was startled and his heart sank. It truly appears that monkeys are creatures whose hearts are easily affected.
